Ayoze Perez is just one of numerous Leicester City players who will be missing at the King Power Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The former Newcastle United forward having missed the trip to play Napoli in the Europa League on Thursday night and now also set to miss out on potentially facing his old teammates.

Brendan Rodgers on the eve of the match said that a total of seven Leicester City players had suddenly become unavailable due to positive Covid tests and / or illness.

The Leicester boss telling media that the identity of the seven would become apparent when they saw who had (and hadn’t…) travelled and who made the matchday squad. Rodgers also indicating that these seven squad members wouldn’t be available for the Newcastle game either.

Local (Leicester) media backing up that non-availability for Newcastle and indeed naming the seven players affected by covid / illness very quickly after Brendan Rodgers revealed the news.

As well as Ayoze Perez, the other Leicester City players unavailable, were Kelechi Iheanacho, Ademola Lookman, Jannik Vestergaard, Daniel Amartey, Filip Benkovic and Vontae Daley-Campbell.

As well as those seven named above, the Foxes have other injury problems.

The excellent right-back Ricardo Pereira has missed the last six games games with a hamstring injury and isn’t expected back today according to the Leicester Mercury.

Leicester paid £37m for Wesley Fofana and looked a class act last season, he won’t be back until sometime in 2022 as he recovers from a broken leg and ankle ligament damage

Not difficult to see how defensive problems have been so bad for Leicester, as full-back James Justin is yet another defender who has been missing. He could possibly come back from his knee injury later this month but is yet another ruled out of this Newcastle game.

As for those who travelled to Naples, Brendan Rodgers hasn’t so far indicated whether any more have joined the ten above as definitely unavailable. However, it is difficult to believe that all who played on Thursday night will be 100% to face United today.
