Unai Emery releases official statement: Newcastle United is not happening

The Unai Emery situation has now been brought to a conclusion.

A mad 24 hours, even by Newcastle United standards, seeing the Spaniard release a public statement.

Unai Emery declaring: “No matter how much noise there was yesterday in another country, within the club there was transparency and loyalty with the Roig family and with my squad, which is maximum and for me is the most important thing. Villarreal CF is my home and I am 100 per cent committed.”

Quite amusing that he doesn’t refer to Newcastle United by name but not funny for NUFC fans.

Somebody who looked a real credible choice…if deciding to sign up at St James Park.

The search continues, Eddie Howe claimed to be the next on the list…

The Athletic report – Wednesday 3 November 2021:

Unai Emery has said he wants to remain at Villarreal and will turn down the opportunity to become manager of Newcastle United.

The Athletic revealed on Tuesday that former Arsenal manager Emery was Newcastle’s preferred choice to succeed Steve Bruce, who was sacked last month.

Emery later confirmed that he had been approached by the Premier League club.

But after Villarreal’s 2-0 victory over Young Boys in the Champions League on Tuesday night, it is believed Emery told Villarreal’s chief executive he does not intend to depart.

Emery then published a statement on Wednesday which said:

“No matter how much noise there was yesterday in another country, within the club there was transparency and loyalty with the Roig family and with my squad, which is maximum and for me is the most important thing.

Villarreal CF is my home and I am 100 per cent committed.”
