Unai Emery now in negotiations with Newcastle United and discussing personal terms – Report
Unai Emery is set to become the new Newcastle United manager if personal terms can be agreed, according to a media exclusive on Tuesday morning.
The Athletic report that negotiations are taking place and: ‘The decision will ultimately come down to whether or not Newcastle are prepared to meet Emery’s personal terms and pay him the sort of salary he was earning at Arsenal.’
David Ornstein (of The Athletic) says that Newcastle’s new owners would need to pay just over £5m to get Unai Emery released from his Villarreal contract.
He signed in 2020 on a three year contract and has just over half of that deal remaining.
The former PSG and Arsenal boss helped Villarreal overcome the odds last season, when winning the Europa League final against Man Utd.
Ornstein says that Newcastle United are in discussions negotiations with Unai Emery and his people, with the club working to finalise an agreement with the Spaniard.
You would imagine that the new owners would be prepared to meet the Spaniard’s personal terms, if they have identified him as their number one choice.
However, if talks do break down with Unai Emery, the man from The Athletic says that Newcastle have Eddie Howe as their back up plan.
Obviously there have been all kinds of media ‘exclusives’ these past few weeks about the identity of the next NUFC manager, but we thought we’d bring you this one, as The Athletic tend to be a lot more reliable than your average media clickbait.
Who knows though…we await with interest and just hope the right man is in place ASAP.
