Sky Sports – Eddie Howe now front of queue as Thursday morning Newcastle United talks ongoing

Eddie Howe is now looking increasingly likely to be announced as the new Newcastle United manager very shortly.

On Wednesday, Sky Sports reported that with Unai Emery turning down the chance to come to Tyneside, that had left Eddie Howe and Roberto Martinez as the two names under consideration.

Now on Thursday morning, Sky Sports have given an update (see below), saying that Eddie Howe is not the ‘clear frontrunner’ and that talks between the Newcastle owners and Howe’s representatives are ongoing this morning.

The broadcaster even suggest the former Bournemouth manager could be in place in time for the trip, ironically, down to the south coast on Saturday, when Newcastle play Bournemouth’s near neighbours Brighton.

Interesting as well, that Sky Sports have revealed that before the takeover suddenly went through, Mike Ashley’s people had been in talks with Eddie Howe regarding him potentially replacing Steve Bruce due to the absolutely woeful results, Bruce exiting with his massive pay-off after no wins in nine games this season, only seven victories in his final thirty eight NUFC games going back to mid-December 2020.

Following the 5.30pm match on Saturday at Brighton, there is an international break and two weeks where potentially a new manager can get working on turning this Newcastle United team / squad around.

There is talk of course about what backing will be available for the January transfer window BUT before any new signings could potentially be available to play, there will be already 21 of 38 Premier League games to have gone by, with as well as the Brighton match, ten other games to be played in only a six week period – starting with Brentford at home on Saturday 20 November.

Keith Downie who reports on Newcastle United for Sky Sports – Thursday 4 November 2021:

“Eddie Howe is [now] the clear frontrunner to take over [at Newcastle United].

“Howe left Bournemouth back in August 2020 and has been out of work for some 15 months.

“As I understand it, talks are ongoing between the former Bournemouth boss and Newcastle’s new owners.

“He [Eddie Howe] did speak to them at the weekend in terms of an interview.

“There was actually [also] previous talks between Eddie Howe and Newcastle’s previous owners [Mike Ashley] before the takeover here, when things weren’t going too well under Steve Bruce.

“But there have been talks between the new owners and Howe and those talks continue in the wake of Unai Emery turning Newcastle down yesterday.

“I think the new consortium know they now need to get somebody in quickly here, before it is too late, they are immersed in a relegation battle.

“It will be interesting to see whether they can, or whether they will, bring in Eddie Howe before Saturday’s match against Brighton on Saturday.

“Eddie Howe has been under consideration by the new owners since they came in.

“I can tell you now this Thursday morning he is under serious consideration and those talks between his representatives and the new owners at Newcastle are ongoing.

“So watch this space.”
