Simon Jordan on Newcastle conflict with other PL clubs – This is really good (no, honestly!)
This is really good from Simon Jordan about Newcastle United.
Yes, you heard right!
Simon Jordan has been discussing the conflict between Newcastle United under their new ownership and certain unnamed other Premier League clubs.
News having broken on Tuesday that Gary Hoffman was set to resign as Premier League chairman because he felt these other Premier League clubs were unfairly blaming him, for supposedly doing something wrong when the Newcastle United takeover was passed in early October 2021. The reports saying that these other PL clubs owners felt that Gary Hoffman and others should have blocked the NUFC takeover.
Simon Jordan though speaking really well on this issue and agreeing that Gary Hoffman has / had an impossible ‘dreadful’ job, due to the way certain PL clubs have behaved.
Simon Jordan making the point that it was only the TV piracy issues that had prevented the Premier League being able to pass the NUFC takeover originally and that once those TV piracy issues were sorted and removed from the equation in early October, there was then nothing in Premier League rules that could be used to prevent the Newcastle United takeover being approved.
Simon Jordan saying that Gary Hoffman and whoever else, didn’t have to consult with any of the other 19 PL clubs about the NUFC takeover. Indeed as reported elsewhere, confidentiality issues would have prevented Gary Hoffman updating / speaking to the other 19 Premier League clubs, in regard to how the Newcastle table was then progressing in early October.
In other words, the Premier League staff (Gary Hoffman and others such as Richard Masters) simply following the Premier League rules that are currently in place, for when it comes to passing takeovers or not.
Simon Jordan summing the whole thing up when saying that in reality it wasn’t anything to do with following rules or not when the Premier League clubs are complaining about Hoffman’s actions, it was simply a case of certain PL clubs not wanting ‘a fox in the henhouse with a big bag of money’ as they desperately wanted to keep Newcastle United from falling into the hands of ambitious rich owners.
Simon Jordan was speaking about the Gary Hoffman situation on Wednesday morning and then this afternoon, yesterday’s media reports proved correct, as the Premier League released an official statement confirming that Hoffman is leaving his job at the end of January 2022.
Simon Jordan speaking on Talksport – 17 November 2021:
“What business is it [of anybody else] who owns Newcastle [United], as long as it meets Premier League rules?
“It was a contentious takeover [of Newcastle United] based upon [TV] piracy.
“And everybody in that room, everyone of those Premier League chairmen, put aside the real bias.
“The real bias was a fox in the henhouse with a big bag of money.
“But the perceived bias and the legitimate bias was [TV] piracy.
“The moment you took that piracy off the table, Newcastle were available to be bought and you don’t need to consult with the other 19 [Premier League] clubs.”
“So has [Gary] Hoffman got an impossible job?”
“I think it [Chairman of the Premier League] is a dreadful job.”
