Manchester City fan input on Newcastle United takeover situation and what lies ahead
As a Manchester City fan, I have been looking at some of the comments from other City fans, regarding the Newcastle United takeover and to be honest, it doesn’t reflect the general feeling.
In the main, we couldn’t be happier for NUFC at the moment.
Not for reasons that it takes away any criticism from us – we’ve never really been bothered by it – but for the fact that Newcastle has always been a sleeping giant and just needs to attract the best players and now is able to.
Just like we were prior to 2008 – could never quite break into the top four.
Also, not a lot of Newcastle United fans will know this but in 2008, Sheikh Mansour was in talks to takeover Newcastle but Mike Ashley didn’t show up for the meeting – hence we were kind of next in line, so we’re always mindful of that.
As for the future?
As a Manchester City fan, myself and the vast majority of other City fans, don’t believe Newcastle will go down – purely for the fact that the momentum of Eddie Howe coming in itself, will lift the players.
We also think a good majority of the players are good enough to blend into a team which will soon be full of TOP quality players.
Every game will now be a cup final for opposing sides.
Whenever you win the comments will be “just proves money can buy success”. Whenever you lose “just proves money can’t buy success”.
It’s the only thing the Red shirts will now have over you – just enjoy it!
Your seats will be closely monitored and any empty ones highlighted…
The ’emptyhad’ comments are rather funny, as we have always been aware that our match fan base is smaller than the so called top four clubs, always around 40,000-50,000 but regular attendances all the same.
Obviously you get the glory hunters (you see new faces around you regularly at games – but very rarely last beyond a season).
Good luck and all the best toon.
