Eddie Howe has Newcastle United training on weekend – Should see some of their faces!
Newcastle United training on a Saturday, in the middle of an international fortnight, surely not?
Well, Eddie Howe was in before 7am at the training ground on Tuesday as he began work on his first day.
This Saturday morning it wasn’t quite that time, as it is daylight on the photos, but yes, Eddie Howe has had Newcastle United training for the players this morning and I am loving it!
You should see some of their faces (who mentioned Jonjo Shelvey???), obviously thinking what is this all about? That nice Mr Bruce didn’t have us doing this, actually we hardly used to see him…after all, as he used to remind us, it isn’t called an ‘international break’ for nothing!!!
Today’s release (see below) from the club is especially heartening on two fronts.
Firstly, the fact that Eddie Howe has the players putting the hours in to improve both fitness and productivity.
Secondly, today the new Head Coach had them in at St James Park, training on the pitch.
This latter part is good thinking I reckon, helping him to get a feel of St James Park with the players, so it isn’t all new next Saturday when Brentford visit.
As for some of the players not looking at all happy that they are expected to be doing Newcastle United training rather than still lying in bed or on the golf course, or indeed off on a nice little break somewhere (Portugal anyone?)…
A reminder that they are the ones who share a large part of the responsibility for Newcastle United being in such a total mess, deep in relegation trouble and haven’t won a single match for six months, whilst at the same time winning the lottery every year when it comes to the wages most of them earn.
Not saying that these Newcastle players (well vast majority of them) don’t give 100% effort and maybe the camera caught some of them at a bad moment this morning…but I think exercises like this particular Newcastle United training session and everything else he has them doing in a very concentrated period of time, will be giving Eddie Howe massive pointers as to who he is going to be able to count on in these relegation threatened weeks and months that lie ahead.
Newcastle United training photo gallery on Saturday morning – 13 November 2021 (text released by the club and then link to photos at the end):
‘There was a change of scenery for training on Saturday, as Newcastle United’s players were put through their paces at St. James’ Park – exactly a week before they entertain Brentford in Eddie Howe’s first match in charge.
Howe was appointed on Monday and had spent the last week working with his squad at the club’s Benton training ground, but held Saturday’s session at the training ground.
With a handful of the team away on international duty, a number of under-23 players were also involved and given an early opportunity to try to impress the new head coach.
And it was another chance for Howe to get his ideas across to the group ahead of what promises to be a big week of preparation ahead of next weekend’s game. Club photographer Serena Taylor brought nufc.co.uk this gallery.’
