An excellent interview by Callum Wilson ahead of the Arsenal match.

The Newcastle United under no illusions about the challenge the club face in the short-term.

Callum Wilson saying about results:: ‘It has to change soon, we know that and are fully aware of the position we are in. You have to keep believing, we are going to turn it around at some point. Results will change, the performances have been better, so we just need a result to go with that.’

However, when it comes to longer term prospects, Callum Wilson definitely thinks the future can be bright, after Mike Ashley and Steve Bruce departures and the new owners and Eddie Howe coming in: ‘It feels like a dark cloud has lifted from over the club. The atmosphere in the stadium is electric. Everyone around the town is buzzing.’

Callum Wilson talking to BT Sport ahead of playing Arsenal:

BT Sport interviewer:

“Table doesn’t make for great reading…bottom, winless, most goals conceded, no clean sheets.

“How quickly do you feel you have to turn this around?”

Callum Wilson:

“Obviously it’s not been nice to be a part of.

“It has to change soon, we know that and are fully aware of the position we are in.

“You have to keep believing, we are going to turn it around at some point.

“Results will change, the performances have been better, so we just need a result to go with that.”

BT Sport:

“How important is it staying positive in this situation?”

Callum Wilson

“Yes, it is massive.

“I have been in this position before and unfortunately one of those ended up in relegation.

“But you could see signs throughout that, people being negative, little groups starting to form, there is nothing like that here.”

BT Sport:

“You have that relationship with Eddie Howe previously, what has it been like to be reunited with him and how important has he been for your career?”

Callum Wilson:

“To be honest, I’m fed up seeing him…no, I’m joking!

“He’s a great manager, he’s helped me a lot in my career.

“Him coming in at a time like this, he knows what’s required, get us playing in the right way.

“I’m sure we will start climbing up the table.”

BT Sport:

“How have the training sessions changed?”

Callum Wilson:

“The intensity has increased.

“To play at that kind of intensity you obviously have to increase your fitness levels.

“The philosophy has changed.

“We are no longer going to just sit behind the ball every game and let teams try to break us down, try and play on the counter-attack. There are going to be times when you need to do that but first and foremost you want to win the ball back high and be closer to the opponent’s goal.”

BT Sport:

“With the new owners and new manager, does it feel like a new era for Newcastle?”

Callum Wilson:

“It feels like a dark cloud has lifted from over the club.

“The atmosphere in the stadium is electric.

“Everyone around the town is buzzing, everybody is talking about it again.

“I think once everything starts to go in the right direction, it will go even better and take it further.”
