Brighton 1 Newcastle 1 – Match ratings and comments on all the NUFC players

We asked Jonathan Drape-Comyn to give us his match ratings and player comments after Brighton 1 Newcastle 1.

A game where you come away wondering how Newcastle United weren’t well beaten.

However, at the same time, thinking what could have been when Callum Wilson was through on goal in added time, only for the keeper to take him out and get a red card.

Vast majority of this game painful to watch, the scoreline the big exception, thanks to scoring with the only NUFC effort on target.

MATCH RATINGS:

Karl Darlow – 5

Didn’t have much to do but strikes me with no confidence at all.

Dubravka must be back in after the internationals.

Murphy – 6

Thought he did ok!

Couldn’t really understand why Manquillo was dropped as he has been our best defender lately, but Murphy showed pace, and at the very least, took us that crucial five yards up the pitch at times.

Krafth – 3

Shocking. Worst defender in PL history for us.

Lascelles – 4

As per usual, the least worst compared to the two donkeys either side of him.

That isn’t saying much though.

Clark – 2

Awful. Gave away the penalty, although it wasn’t a penalty!

Can’t pass the ball, looks unfit, slow. Way past it.

Should have gone years ago.

Ritchie – 3

So far out of his depth it’s unreal.

Maybe, Eddie Howe can get something out of him but it would be great to see Lewis given a chance.

Hayden – 6

Scored the goal and did ok.

Not a world beater by any means but took his goal brilliantly to be fair.

Shelvey – 0

What a waste of space.

How has he managed to get five years and counting out of us?

Couldn’t give less of a sh.t if he tried.

Almiron – 3

I like him but he was shocking today and looks so poor and so weak.

Doesn’t look cut out for the battle.

ASM – 5

Isolated again but he and Wilson look like a threat whenever they are on the ball.

Wilson – 7

Proper striker.

Should have been allowed to get the winner (if not for the red card)!

SUBS:

Joelinton – N/A (not on long enough)

Gayle – N/A (not on long enough

Interim Manager:

Graeme Jones – 1

Some will say we could have won it given Wilson’s last minute chance / foul but honestly, weren’t we lucky again?

Game should have been all over (in Brighton’s favour). Lucky Newcastle.
