Brentford give official update on injury and fitness situation for Newcastle United match
Brentford made a promising start to the season, picking up twelve points from the opening seven matches.
Those three wins and three draws, only one defeat, putting them comfortably in the top half of the Premier League table.
However, four defeats in a row and especially the last two against Burnley and Norwich, have been a real reality check.
Whilst maybe it is to be expected that the start of the season momentum and enthusiasm after promotion will wear off to an extent, the number of injuries has undoubtedly contributed as well.
So has the international break helped to improve the injury and fitness situation significantly at Brentford, ahead of this Newcastle match?
Brentford boss Thomas Frank has given this update on fitness and availability for Saturday:
“Mathias Jensen is back from Denmark and through his quarantine. He was in training today.
“Zanka will be assessed. He is training a bit going into the weekend.
“Yoane Wissa is getting closer. Let’s see if it is close enough to be involved for selection. I will make this decision on that tomorrow [Friday].
“Julian Jeanvier has just started training. He is not in full contact as he has been out for a long time. He will still be a while.
“Shandon Baptiste is closer; he is in contention to be in the squad for the weekend.
“Kris Ajer is going to have a scan at the end of month and that will give us a clearer update on where he is and if he can return to training and matches earlier than worse case. He is doing rehab and fighting hard to come back quick.”
So going off what Thomas Frank has said, it appears that definitely missing will be Kristoffer Ajer, Julian Jeanvier, Mads Sorensen, David Raya and Joshua Dasilva.
Whilst Mathias Jensen, Mathias Jorgensen (AKA Zanka), Shandon Baptiste and Yoann Wissa all stand a chance to varying degrees of being available.
