Bizarre new interview fails to ask Callum Wilson the only question Newcastle fans are asking

Checking through Newcastle United stuff this morning, I was interested to see there was an interview with Callum Wilson.

I was then intrigued, when I spotted it was an ‘exclusive’ interview, not just any ordinary run of the mill one.

The ‘exclusive’ published only three days ahead of this absolutely vital match with Brentford, surely it must answer the Callum Wilson question that all the Newcastle United fans have been asking…

Apparently not.

I checked all the way through a number of times and couldn’t see anything about it, indeed, I couldn’t even see the question being asked.

How bizarre.

Newcastle United published a large set of photos from Saturday’s training session at St James Park, the ‘full’ NUFC squad there, apart from those away on international duty.

Paul Dummett as a long term injury was missing and Ryan Fraser who pulled out of the Scotland squad with a calf issue.

However, all the rest of the non-international squad were training, apart from…Callum Wilson.

Yet this interview doesn’t ask why the striker was missing from Saturday’s training photos, an innocent explanation, or a new injury…?

Fair enough ask him about all the other usual low key (uninteresting!) stuff BUT ahead of Saturday, all we care is that Callum Wilson is on the pitch and fully fit.

With four goals in seven Premier League games this season, yet more evidence that he is absolutely the most vital Newcastle player in this current squad. Without him, who would / will get the goals.

Was this interview done a week ago or so, before Saturday’s session where Callum Wilson couldn’t be seen, or were the newspaper not allowed to ask the question (and / or publish the reply), because if Wilson is out injured again, it makes the interview largely irrelevant, considering how important Wilson is to this NUFC team.

Here are a few (less interesting!) bits from that Callum Wilson interview with the Chronicle:

“The test that we did [now Eddie Howe is taking training], the bleep test, was just a six-minute one, but that was to gauge where our fitness levels are.

“We are obviously training with a lot more intensity now [than under Steve Bruce].

“To play a certain style of play you have to cope with the demands of that training and we want to play attacking football. There will be a lot more pressure on the ball and we will be further up the pitch. To do that, you need to train this way (intensely) and to train that way you have to improve your fitness levels.

“For us, we have had a style of play where we have not had much of the ball and sat back more. So you get to a certain level of fitness. All of a sudden if you aren’t working on that, week in, week out, day in, day out – you are going to drop off a little bit slightly.

“For us, this has been a good time now to get some more high speed runs into our legs and more intensity into our legs. Hopefully that will stand us in good stead for when the games start coming thick and fast.”
