Wolves 2 Newcastle 1 – Match ratings and comments on all the NUFC players

We asked Jonathan Drape-Comyn to give us his match ratings and player comments after Wolves 2 Newcastle 1.

A game that featured 35 shots in total and for once, Newcastle having more and better chances than the opposition.

Leading for most of the match, United couldn’t add to Sean Longstaff’s long range 23rd minute effort, paying the price when Sarr allowed a free header only six yards out.

Match ratings:

Karl Darlow: 5

Beaten twice from two shots, I think he made one actual save in the whole game.

Sooner Dubravka is back the better.

Manquillo: 4

Shocking and all over the place defensively, offers next to nothing going forward…despite his recent exploits against Man U.

Fernandez: 3

Awful.

Looked old, tired, legs like jelly. Is he fit?

He is one that would be a different player under a different manager I reckon.

Clark: 4

Well past his best, but marginally better than Fernandez yesterday… that is not saying much though.

Ritchie: 5

Actually thought he did ok-ish.

Although he looks so uncomfortable at left back… probably another one past his sell by date but getting us by on grit and determination.

Always up for the fight.

S.Longstaff: 6

Along with ASM, maybe our best player yesterday?

A few mistakes in him but always cool and calm, could be a real player under a different manager.

Almiron: 6

Likewise, completely wasted again yesterday.

Saw very little of the ball but when he did see it, he always looks like he could do something with it.

Willock: 3

Was rubbish when he was on…and hasn’t been very good since returning to NUFC.

Would likely prosper under a different manager.

Hayden: 3

A shadow of his former self, can’t blame him being shipped around from position to position. Would be a far better player under a different set up/manager.

Joelinton: 3

Donkey.

Contributes almost nothing to the game… had one bright moment but we only get excited about it because he is so terrible.

Joelinton has set the standard so low for an NUFC footballer that we are encouraged when he manages the absolute basics.

Saint-Maximin: 7

By far the brightest spark.

Wasn’t quite his day but still head and shoulders above the rest.

Should have made it 2-1 at one stage but wasn’t to be… not a centre-forward, needs help.

SUBS:

Murphy (off bench on 70 minutes): 4

No point in playing this guy at right back, completely ineffectual and in truth, not very good… remind me why is he on a 6 year contract?

Hendrick (off bench on 36 minutes): 5

Take away the fact that he scored a half decent goal thanks to some horrific goalkeeping…he was still woeful.

If that is the standard then god help us.

Gayle (off bench on 77 minutes):

What’s the point?

Head Coach:

Steve Bruce: 0

If you actually were a Geordie, or a fan, you’d leave.
