Simon Jordan admits he has got Newcastle United takeover completely wrong
Simon Jordan has held his hands up.
The Talksport pundit and long-term irritant to Newcastle United fans, admitting that he has got things completely wrong.
A week ago, Simon Jordan declared (see below) that the Saudi PIF Newcastle United takeover was ‘deader than a dead thing from dead land.’
Simon Jordan going on to rub it in further, stating: ‘It’s only the people that want to keep it running for their own motivations. Whether that’s Amanda Staveley because she wants to save face for the Horlicks of a deal she’s manufactured. Or whether it’s Newcastle fans because they’re wishing and wanting.’
Now on Thursday 7 October 2021, Simon Jordan has been feasting on humble pie on Talksport:
“I look completely wrong and I am wrong because I didn’t envisage that the Saudis were still there.
“I was very shocked. Before the show ended yesterday I got an email from someone of quite significance, telling me that this was coming down the line.
“And I said to our producer, ‘Wait and see. Newcastle will be back on now’ and it is.
“It is now where it is.
“The two differences…
“I never saw them [the Saudis] acknowledging these issues of piracy and being prepared to do something about it.
“I never saw, potentially, that they [the Saudis) were still [wanting to buy Newcastle United].
“For all the Newcastle fans who want to go ‘Ner, ner, ner, ner, ner’…yes, I got it wrong!”
Simon Jordan speaking to Talksport – 30 September 2021:
“This idea that Newcastle is going to get bought by this PIF fund, this is deader than a dead thing from dead land.
“It’s only the people that want to keep it running for their own motivations.
“Whether that’s Amanda Staveley because she wants to save face for the Horlicks of a deal she’s manufactured.
“Or whether it’s Newcastle fans because they’re wishing and wanting.
“I don’t expect it [Mike Ashley’s anti-competition case] to lead to any particular disclosure.
“I don’t expect the Premier League to be giving anything that vaguely resembles something that can be made mischief of.
“That suggests that XYZ football club has leveraged [Premier League chairman] Richard Masters into having a biased attitude towards a potential new fox in the henhouse of the big six that controls the Premier League, that’s all they’re looking for.”
