Premier League manager sacked – Sunday shock announcement

Sunday morning has seen the first Premier League management sacking of the season and no it is NOT Steve Bruce, sadly, instead it is Xisco Munoz getting his marching orders.

Nobody can ever accuse Watford of taking too much time when it comes to refusing to press the button.

The number of managers and sackings Watford go through is quite mad.

Starting September 2019 (two months after Steve Bruce got the Newcastle job), Watford have sacked four different managers, with Xisco Munoz the fourth of them in only 25 months.

The Watford official statement (see below) includes: ‘The Board feels recent performances strongly indicate a negative trend at a time when team cohesion should be visibly improving.’

The last three Premier League results have seen Watford win 3-1 at Norwich, draw 1-1 at home to Newcastle, then lose narrowly 1-0 at Leeds yesterday.

This is how the Premier League table looks on Sunday morning as Xisco Munoz is sacked:

As you can see, Xisco Munoz had Watford 14th on seven points, five points above Steve Bruce and Newcastle United.

This was after Xisco Munoz got Watford promoted as well last season.

Watford Official Statement – Sunday 3 October 2021:

‘Watford FC confirms Xisco Munoz has left his post as the club’s Head Coach.

The Board feels recent performances strongly indicate a negative trend at a time when team cohesion should be visibly improving.

The Hornets will always be grateful to Xisco for the part he played in securing last season’s promotion and wish him well for his future career in football.

No further club comment will be available until the imminent announcement of a new Head Coach.’
