The Newcastle United takeover is almost there.

It now looks all set to be officially confirmed today – Thursday 7 October 2021 a date that will be etched in all our memories.

The most reliable Newcastle United media source of all, having confirmed that the deal is all done.

The only thing still to be sorted, is deciding when the official announcement will be out into the public domain.

George Caulkin, previously of The Times (and The Mag!), now The Athletic, never gratuitously speculates about anything when it comes to Newcastle United.

This morning George has revealed via his Twitter account:

“At this point, we’re just waiting for an announcement.

“The takeover is done, the money is there and the Premier League have signed it off.

“All that remains is to make it official.

“Could be any time now.”

Yesterday had brought news of Saudi Arabia having basically backed down, agreeing to pay compensation to beIN Sports, committing to stopping all TV piracy within their borders, as well as also agreeing to ensuring the citizens of Saudi Arabia can all now access beIN Sports.

That news was swiftly followed by ever increasingly positive reports that the Saudi peace deal with beIN Sports had also been the trigger for the Newcastle United takeover to now be able to go through.

George Caulkin shared this last night) Wednesday 6 October 2021 via Twitter:

“There may not be anything official tonight (although you never know with this deal …), but it’s safe to say we’re now entering the final hours of Mike Ashley’s ownership of Newcastle United.

“It has been a frantic day.

“Lots to say on it but at this stage I want to wait until it’s official.”
