Official training update – These 20 outfield Newcastle United players set to be available for Chelsea
Today (Wednesday 27 October), the club released a training update of the Newcastle United players.
The images released, showing Newcastle United players training ahead of Saturday’s match against Chelsea.
A bit of insight into who may and may not be available for this match against the league leaders.
Amongst the text that went with Wednesday’s photo gallery, the Newcastle United included:
‘The squad have trained all week under interim boss Graeme Jones and the rest of United’s coaching staff as they work on the best way to tackle Thomas Tuchel’s team on Tyneside.
Callum Wilson has scored twice in two games – including a stunning overhead kick at Selhurst Park – since he returned from a thigh injury, while Jonjo Shelvey has served a one-match ban for his red card against Tottenham Hotspur and, having asked to play 90 minutes for the under-23s against Wolves on Monday to boost his fitness, is pushing for a recall.
Joe Willock, Miguel Almirón and Joelinton are also looking to force their way back into the starting XI after lively cameos from the bench last time out, so Jones has several big decisions to make ahead of a mouthwatering match for the Magpies.’
Miguel Almiron, Karl Darlow, Ciaran Clark, Federico Fernandez, Ryan Fraser, Dwight Gayle, Mark Gillespie, Isaac Hayden, Jeff Hendrick, Joelinton, Emil Krafth, Jamaal Lascelles, Jamal Lewis, Sean Longstaff, Javier Manquillo, Jacob Murphy, Matt Ritchie, Allan Saint-Maximin, Fabian Schar, Jonjo Shelvey, Callum Wilson, Joe Willock
Of those who were missing from the images (the image above NOT from the club’s update today, simply for illustration purposes!)…
There was only one image that included goalkeepers and the photo set revolved around general fitness and running drills etc, rather than working with the ball and practice games involving keepers, so assume that Martin Dubravka and Freddie Woodman (who weren’t included in that one keepers photo) were also involved in doing their own training separately with the other goalkeepers.
Elliot Anderson has been injured and wasn’t involved in Monday’s Under 23s defeat to Wolves, so no surprise that he was missing.
Paul Dummett the only senior player who looks for sure not to be available for this game on Saturday. Long-term injured and not seen in these images today.
The good news though, is that apart from Anderson and Dummett, every chance that Graeme Jones could have an almost entire squad of 24 (out of 26) NUFC players to select from for this Chelsea game.
Amusing of course that the text in the club update starts with ‘The squad have trained all week…’, as compared to what happened under Steve Bruce???
