Elliot Anderson has been called up by the Scotland Under 21s for two matches in November.

Still only 18, the young midfielder has been training with the Newcastle United first team for around a year now.

Fairly often named on the first team bench in that time, Elliot Anderson only getting two opportunities on the pitch and both against Arsenal.

Anderson getting three minutes in the 3-0 Premier League defeat at the Emirates in January (2021), that same month also at the Emirates, 39 minutes off the bench in the 2-0 FA Cup loss to the Gunners.

Having already represented Scotland at various age levels, earlier this year Elliot Anderson was named in an England Under 19 squad in March this year and played.

Has recently been injured and wasn’t featured in training shots released by Newcastle United on Wednesday, hopefully he is back to full fitness soon for club and (whatever!) country.

Newcastle United official announcement:

‘Elliot Anderson has been named in the Scotland Under-21 squad for their European Championship qualifying double-header next month.

The Newcastle United youngster represented Scotland at under-16, under-17 and under-18 level, but was most recently capped by England’s under-19s in March.

However, the 18-year-old has been called up by Scotland’s under-21 boss Scot Gemmill for their back-to-back fixtures against Kazakhstan on Friday, 12th November and Belgium on Tuesday, 16th November.

Both games will be played at Tannadice, the home of Dundee United, and will kick off at 7:05pm, with Group I points at stake.

The matches will both be broadcast live by BBC Scotland, with the Kazakhstan fixture shown only on iPlayer.

Anderson has netted four times in six outings for the Magpies’ second string this term, having made both his first team and Premier League debuts in the 2020/21 campaign.’
