Newcastle 0 Chelsea 3 – Match ratings and comments on all the NUFC players
We asked Jonathan Drape-Comyn to give us his match ratings and player comments after Newcastle 0 Chelsea 3.
A game where Newcastle United had 21% possession and it was difficult to work out how that figure was so high.
There was no attacking plan whatsoever and pure chance that United stayed level for so long, before the inevitable opening goal and then whatever would follow…
Karl Darlow – 1
He obviously could not do anything about the first goal but even before that, he gives me no confidence at all when the ball is in the last third. Looks so nervous with the ball at his feet.
Second goal… what is he doing?!
Gives away a penalty for the third.
If Dubravka is fit enough to be on the bench, then he should be starting… we cannot afford to be sentimental with the position that we are in.
Dubravka must start the next game.
Manquillo – 7
I thought he did well again.
Looked ok defensively and he has really improved his game this season when going forward (not that we ever really went forward).
However, when we did, it was down the right hand side with Manquillo and ASM.
It says a lot about this team though that Manquillo is starting to look like a half decent player.
Krafth – 1
I honestly don’t think he would get a game for any Championship teams, so god knows why he plays for Newcastle… especially ahead of Schar and Fernandez.
All over the place defensively, doesn’t look like he can kick a ball… and when he does finally kick it, it is almost always back towards his own goal.
Might go under the radar but he’d be first CB on the teamsheet for any ‘worst NUFC team in the PL era’.
We can debate between Marcelino and Boumsong afterwards.
Lascelles – 3
The best centre half of a very very bad bunch.
He may be the captain but that shouldn’t make him immune from the drop.
If we are to bring in a centre half in Jan, I’d have him (assuming!) in with Schar and Fernandez.
Clark – 2
How is he still playing at PL level?
It’s madness when you think about it.
Spends most of the game with his shoulders pushed out, looking for a fight, passing the ball backwards.
Not his fault of course, like the two players playing either side of him (Lascelles and Ritchie), gives his all… but it’s far from good enough.
Ritchie – 2
Not good enough at all, and in fact, is somewhat of a liability for us at the moment.
Spent the second goal sat on his backside.
He has been a great servant for the club but his performances this season have been so far under par it is frightening.
Jamal Lewis must be awful in training…
Hayden – 5
Poor today and picked up an early yellow card which severely hindered him.
Even then, his ball retention was poor and he offered next to nothing.
Looked tired also… maybe a hangover from actually training this week.
Longstaff – 3
Was he even playing?
I can’t remember him making a pass or a tackle.
Game must have completely passed him by.
Turned 24 today. Not a young lad and needs to step up, otherwise he won’t even be good enough for Newcastle in the Championship next season…
Fraser – 6
I thought he looked ok when he did get on the ball but sadly that wasn’t enough.
All three attacking players looked lost and when they did get on the ball, they found themselves in their own half.
ASM – 7
Our only proper attacking threat.
He was everywhere looking to get on the ball and make something happen… if only the rest of the team got the memo.
Bruce may be gone but we still look like ASM United at the moment. Has to change.
Wilson – 5
Lost and isolated against three world class centre halves.
What did we expect? Frustrating afternoon for Wilson.
Willock – N/A (Hardly touched the ball,, so impossible to judge)
Almiron – N/A (Same as Willock)
Shelvey – N/A
Good riddance to him when he does go.
Sure Bruce will pick him up at his next PL job.
Graeme Jones – 1
Talked a good game during the week which was refreshing but absolutely did not walk the walk.
Same sh.t as last week and the week before.
Why the same team? Why no changes?
Why is our best goalkeeper on the bench?
Why are our two best centre-backs not in the team?
Why are our two best centre midfielders on the bench?
Why park up with 10 men behind the ball for the entire game with absolutely no desire to cross the halfway line?
If that is his attitude, and his opinion of the players that we have, then perhaps it would be best for him to stay well away from the first team once a new manager is appointed.
