Miguel Almiron agent discusses player’s future after transfer to La Liga rumour
Miguel Almiron has been the subject of some speculation as to his future.
With claims that he could be set to move to La Liga, Elche named as the most likely destination.
Daniel Campos is the Newcastle player’s agent and he has been talking to the media over in Paraguay about the rumours.
Campos says that there is absolutely no truth in there being any plans for Miguel Almiron to leave St James Park in the foreseeable future.
Instead, the agent says that he sees Miguel Almiron as one of those current players who will stay and help the club progress as part of the base of an improving team, once new signings are added.
When joining on 31 January 2019, Miguel Almiron signed a five and a half year contract. No urgent need for any contract talks whatsoever, as the Paraguayan international still has two years and eight months of his current deal remaining, up to end of June 2024.
So many players have looked so much worse under Steve Bruce and Miguel Almiron arguably the one who has suffered the most under the now sacked head coach.
When he arrived in 2019, Almiron was the key player who helped spark an excellent end to the season for Newcastle United, his pace and ability and Rafa giving him license to attack as much as possible, helping NUFC to get the fifth highest number of points in the final 16 games of the 2018/19 PL season and the fifth highest number of goals in those final 16 matches under Benitez.
Bruce used Miguel Almiron basically as an extra defender most of the time and almost completely stifled his attacking threat.
For Newcastle fans, when the new manager comes in, Almiron will surely be one of the players who we can realistically expect to see major improvement from, with a better team set up and tactics, to get the best from Miggy and others.
Daniel Campos speaking to Versus radio station in Paraguay about Miguel Almiron – 27 October 2021:
“I also read them [rumours about Miguel Almiron moving to La Liga] but the truth is that it has no basis, no foundation.
“We know absolutely nothing [about any interest from Elche or any other Spanish club]but I see it [leaving Newcastle for La Liga] totally unlikely.
“Miguel Almiron has two and a half more years of his Newcastle contract [still remaining].
“We will see if he leaves because in principle he would [likely to] be the one [of the players as the] basis of the rebuilding of Newcastle with a few other boys.
“In the next few days we will talk with the new people [Newcastle United owners] to see what the plans are.
“They [Newcastle] can’t buy all the players at once, it took PSG three years to put together the team.
“The only thing they [players] hear is versions and nothing else.
“New people took over, but the new coaching staff has not yet come.
“Anything more, [such as] expectations, no one has spoken with them [the players]
“I think they [Newcastle United] are going to build a great base to fight [from] in two years or so.”
