Graeme Jones revealed his Newcastle team v Crystal Palace at 2pm this (Saturday) afternoon.

Newcastle kicking off their match at Selhurst Park at 3pm.

Interim manager Graeme Jones looking to help NUFC bounce back from starting the season with a nightmare six defeats and three draws under Steve Bruce.

A lot of debate in advance of the game about what kind of team and tactics Graeme Jones would go with, though fair to say I don’t think many predicted a five man defence and this team selection…

The confirmed Newcastle team v Crystal Palace:

Newcastle United:

Darlow, Manquillo, Krafth, Lascelles, Clark, Ritchie, Hayden, Sean Longstaff, Fraser, Saint-Maximin, Wilson

Subs:

Gillespie, Schar, Joelinton, Lewis, Hendrick, Murphy, Almiron, Willock, Gayle

After his team was revealed, Graeme Jones was quizzed by Sky Sports on his team selection and feelings ahead of taking charge of his first NUFC match.

Interviewer:

“Give us an insight first of all as to what this week has been like personally for you?”

Graeme Jones:

“Busy.

“Full on.

“Stimulating.

“All them things really…but I have never lost focus of what is important, which is today. So hopefully that will show in the performance.”

Interviewer:

“Can you talk us through the changes you have made to the team and maybe the system as well today?”

Graeme Jones:

“The system, no, with the greatest respect.

“The changes? I spoke right at the beginning of the week about football makes the decisions, not me. I’m just the assessor of those decisions.

“So, from Emil Krafth and from Ryan Fraser, they have trained really well, they have showed me that they want to be in the team, they want to be part of things. Both international footballers, both good Premier League experience. SO I’m expecting a good positive performance from them.”

Interviewer:

“It was really nice in the build up hearing you talk about your childhood memories supporting Newcastle. Will you be able to take it all in, on the touchline today?”

Graeme Jones:

“Definitely not, no.

“I’ve got a job to do and I don’t want to come out of that.

“I would love to stand there and just…I’ll enjoy this. You only enjoy this if you are competitive and you get a win, or you get a positive result. So I won’t deviate from that plan.”

Good luck to Graeme Jones and his Newcastle team today.

One thing for sure, he has absolutely gone with what he thinks is the right starting eleven, not simply playing to the gallery and choosing the players who most of the fanbase would have gone for.
