Steve Bruce reveals 3 new injury worries after Manchester United 4 Newcastle United 1

Steve Bruce has given an injury update after the 4-1 hammering at Old Trafford.

Newcastle United went into Saturday’s match against Manchester United missing six players.

Martin Dubravka, Jonjo Shelvey and Callum Wilson are all out for the foreseeable future with Steve Bruce unable on Friday to even give any loose timescales on their absences.

Meanwhile, Paul Dummett looks sadly set for yet another injury impacted campaign, having managed only 14 Premier League starts in each of the last two seasons, yet to make a matchday squad so far this season.

Ryan Fraser has an ankle injury he picked up on international duty but Steve Bruce said on Friday that he’s hopeful it won’t prove too serious.

However, I would be amazed if any of these five were available to start against Leeds on Friday.

So the last thing we need is any more injury worries…

Steve Bruce after the hammering at Old Trafford though, revealing three new injury issues.

Steve Bruce speaking to NUFC TV:

Interviewer:

“I imagine it is a disappointed dressing room after that but you now have to pick them up for Leeds on Friday?”

Steve Bruce:

“Yes, we have a disappointed dressing room, one with a few knocks.

“Joe Willock, Ciaran Clark in particular…and Manqy [Javier Manquillo], we will have to see how to see how they are….lets hope they are ok.”

This trio are the three who were all subbed in the later stages of the 4-1 defeat at Old Trafford.

Steve Bruce is saying Ciaran Clark is probably looking the most serious injury but with him having flagged up a problem for Joe Willock as well, it has made me now look back and see his substitution in a different light and with added concern. When the cameras showed him replaced by Jeff Hendrick (???) in the 85th minute, they then continued with a camera on Willock as he went and sat down and looked far from happy. At the time I thought it was just frustration at the events on the pitch and result BUT I’m just hoping now that it isn’t a case of the new (only!) summer signing set to be out for any length of time.

Javier Manquillo as well, apart from his superb goal, at Old Trafford he proved yet again that he is easily the best defender Newcastle have got to play at full-back or wing-back on the right.

Ciaran Clark didn’t do too bad when coming back into the team yesterday and hopefully he will prove to be ok as well, he was certainly the best in the middle of defence with Lascelles and Hayden poor.
