Steve Bruce is somehow making me hate Newcastle United even more with this latest…nonsense
Just when you think it is mission impossible and Steve Bruce can’t possibly make you hate this football club even more, he somehow manages it.
Mike Ashley has made me hate Newcastle United in so many ways these past 14 or 15 years but Steve Bruce had added a whole new level on top of that.
We never hear from Mike Ashley, well, apart from yearly or so statements where he puts us (the fans) and the club’s ambitions in their place.
However, as the club’s only mouthpiece, Steve Bruce delivers to us every week, before and after matches, apart from international breaks when he goes on holiday…
Ahead of this Man Utd game, he has done it once again, whole new levels.
Treating journalists (and fans by association) with absolute contempt. The way he speaks to people, who the f.ck does he think he is?
Just asking normal questions, not even loaded ones, yet he gets on the ‘front foot’ with his aggression and unprofessional behaviour.
Then when it comes to talking about Manchester United…honestly…you would think he was Man U’s manager and not Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Wetting his pants at the thought of 36 year old Ronaldo going back to Old Trafford.
He talks up Man Utd as though they are 1970 Brazil, not a team that in their last two matches got a 1-1 draw against Southampton and totally fluked a 1-0 win over Wolves in a game that they deserved to lose.
Steve Bruce pre-Man Utd press conference:
“My job is to always try and improve the squad and never be satisfied. Never.
“And I thought a couple of additions to the squad, on loan, would help us enormously.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t possible to do that.”
Simon Bird (The Mirror):
“Were you comfortable with wording of the club [ED: Mike Ashley] statement?”
Steve Bruce (raises his voice and clearly angry):
“Awww Simon, it is what it is.
“It doesn’t make any difference if I’m comfortable, or disappointed, or whatever, it is what it is.”
“Steve, you talk about the [transfer] policy there, could you refresh the fans on what that is?”
Steve Bruce (gives a right dirty look and waits a few seconds before answering…):
“Well surely you must…the policy, you have just seen the policy with the [Mike Ashley] statement haven’t you?”
“Yes but can you expand a little bit on it…”
“Well the policy has been written in front of you and pretty clear as far as I’m concerned, you know.
“Look, I wanted to try and bring in a couple of players to add to the squad and it wasn’t possible, end of.
“What can I do about it?”

Steve Bruce on the challenge of facing Manchester United with Ronaldo this weekend:
“It’s something that we are all in it for.
“These are the big stages, the big atmosphere, the big carnival that it will be tomorrow.
“When you are the best player in the World, arguably, then this sort of thing happens.
“It’s quite an incredible story of him going back and I’m sure they could have sold out Old Trafford ten times over, you know, if they wished.
“It has been quite remarkable.
“It’s our job to go there and make it as difficult as we can.
“He is incredible for his age, we’ve seen that in the international week, last week.
“You know, he has been a quality, quality player, so you know, you cannot get any higher than where he has been.
“He has been totally unbelievable.
“So, we’ve got to try and stop him tomorrow.
“Quite remarkable the way he has looked after himself, the goals he has scored, at every club he has played for, is quite remarkable.
“Quite rightly makes him to be, in my opinion, the best player in the World…and he has been.
“A terrific signing by Man U.
“It’s always going to be tough and the added spice of Ronaldo coming back will add to that.
“The one thing we’re going to have to do is enjoy the challenge and relish the opportunity to see if we can spoil the party.”
