Steve Bruce has been talking to the media ahead of the match against Watford.

Vicarage Road at 3pm on Saturday, Newcastle United hoping to crawl out of the relegation zone.

A nightmare start to the season with a cup exit and only two points from a possible fifteen.

Now consecutive clashes (six pointers?) away from home against likely relegation rivals Watford and Wolves.

The injury / fitness / availability situation not surprisingly was high on the agenda today, with concerns about a number of players.

Keith Downie of Sky Sports reporting that both Joe Willock and Jamaal Lascelles are now injured, with both them and Callum Wilson set to be missing until after the international break at the earliest:

‘Joe Willock (toe) and Jamaal Lascelles (thigh) will both miss the next two Newcastle matches.

“The pair, and Callum Wilson won’t return until after the October international break.

“Willock kicked the ground in training, Lascelles tweaked his thigh against Leeds.’

Steve Bruce:

“You have a squad of 25 players, but six of them are injured. It’s not that great, is it? It’s how we adapt to it, how we get on with it. It’s why we have a squad of players.”

The likes of Martin Dubravka, Jonjo Shelvey and Paul Dummett appearing to make up the six missing.

The Mag – Thursday 23 September 2021:

When it comes to those missing from Thursday’s training images we came up with six who didn’t appear in any of the images.

Callum Wilson still missing, along with Jonjo Shelvey, both long-term injured.

Paul Dummett is yet again missing from the training photos and seemingly still injured, along with Freddie Woodman who will be missing as well.

Joe Willock was pictured on social media wearing a protective boot on his left foot and his absence from the training images points to the likelihood of him missing this Watford match. Although The Mail did report earlier today that their information was that Willock hadn’t suffered a ‘break’ and it was more precautionary. Regardless, the odds must be heavily stacked against him playing in this next match.

The other player we couldn’t see was Jamaal Lascelles, no suggestion previously that he had any injury issues and maybe just missed out by the club photographer when taking her training shots. However, Steve Bruce’s Friday pre-match press conference will hopefully bring some clarity / reassurance on the NUFC captain.
