Official training update – 6 Newcastle United players notable by absence
Today (Thursday 23 September) has seen the club release a training update of the Newcastle United players.
The images released, showing Newcastle United players training ahead of Saturday afternoon’s trip to Watford.
Today’s photos showing 24 Newcastle United players training as they hope to bounce back from a dreadful start to the season, with four defeats and two draws in the opening six matches (all competitions) of the season.
Amongst the text that went with Thursday’s photo gallery, the Newcastle United update included:
‘Martin Dúbravka has recently stepped up his return from injury, while Karl Darlow made his first appearance of the campaign against Leeds after Freddie Woodman was hurt in training last week.
The likes of Joe White, Jack Young and Remi Savage were all involved on Thursday as United prepared for their next game, with another training session still to come on Friday before the Magpies make the trip to Hertfordshire.’
The photos published by Newcastle United this Thursday afternoon have featured the following 24 players from what we could see:
Miguel Almiron, Elliot Anderson, Ciaran Clark, Karl Darlow, Martin Dubravka, Federico Fernandez, Ryan Fraser, Dwight Gayle, Mark Gillespie, Isaac Hayden, Jeff Hendrick, Joelinton, Emil Krafth, Dan Langley, Jamal Lewis, Sean Longstaff, Javier Manquillo, Jacob Murphy, Matt Ritchie, Allan Saint-Maximin, Remi Savage, Fabian Schar, Joe White, Jack Young
That list of 24 though does include three senior goalkeepers (Darlow, Dubravka, Gillespie) and the five younger players Elliot Anderson, Dan Langley, Remi Savage, Joe White and Jack Young.
Leaving 16 senior outfield players in total, that can be seen in the official images.
Martin Dubravka only started training this week and it appears he is still doing individual training away from the main group, so obviously no chance of him being involved this weekend and more realistically, hopefully back in contention after this next international break which starts in nine days time after the Wolves away match.
When it comes to those missing from Thursday’s training images we came up with six who didn’t appear in any of the images.
Callum Wilson still missing, along with Jonjo Shelvey, both long-term injured.
Paul Dummett is yet again missing from the training photos and seemingly still injured, along with Freddie Woodman who will be missing as well.
Joe Willock was pictured on social media wearing a protective boot on his left foot and his absence from the training images points to the likelihood of him missing this Watford match. Although The Mail did report earlier today that their information was that Willock hadn’t suffered a ‘break’ and it was more precautionary. Regardless, the odds must be heavily stacked against him playing in this next match.
The other player we couldn’t see was Jamaal Lascelles, no suggestion previously that he had any injury issues and maybe just missed out by the club photographer when taking her training shots. However, Steve Bruce’s Friday pre-match press conference will hopefully bring some clarity / reassurance on the NUFC captain.
