Each player marked out of 10 and the averages below.
Another Premier League match and yet more goals flowing into the NUFC net.
Serious cause for concern, Newcastle have conceded more goals than any other Premier League club and only Leeds (11) and Norwich (11) have also conceded double figures.
An easy choice for the black and white man of the match, with Miguel Almiron (7.3) putting in his usual tireless shift defensively, but also creating Newcastle’s goal out of nothing. The Paraguayan producing a brilliant turn to go past his man midway in the Newcastle half, then riding a couple more challenges, before then his intelligent ball across the pitch left ASM and the rampaging Manquillo two on one with the final Man Utd defender.
Only two other Newcastle players were rated 6.0 or higher and they have already been mentioned…
Javier Manquillo (6.5) coming back into the team and reminding us once again that he is easily the best defender on the right hand side, whilst what a composed finish for his first ever NUFC goal.
ASM (6.3) got the assist and was involved in most of Newcastle’s other better moments, though Man Utd knowing there was so little threat elsewhere, double up on the French winger most of the time and made it difficult.
Five Newcastle players picked out as particularly poor on the day.
Joelinton (2.5) proving almost zero threat to the opposition goal as usual, got into shooting positions a few times but woeful finishing. His one effort on target was straight at De Gea when a low shot either side from 15 yards out would surely have produced a goal. His lack of drive generally to get into scoring positions is woeful, six goals in 73 Premier League appearances now.
Freddie Woodman (2.6) badly at fault for the opener and could have done better on the second. However, yet again the keeper left badly exposed by those in front of him.
Jamaal Lascelles (3.4) didn’t give away a penalty this time but still struggling for form and showing little leadership as Newcastle slide into the relegation zone.
Isaac Hayden (4.0) not helped by Steve Bruce playing him out of position but ball watching as Ronaldo scored the first, then a shocker from Hayden as he allowed 36 year old Ronaldo stroll away from him to score from only around 12 yards out past Woodman.
Ciaran Clark (4.0) was one of three changes to the back five and did little to suggest he was an improvement.
As for the other three, Sean Longstaff (5.1) did ok in the circumstances and Willock (4.8) and Ritchie (4.5) weren’t the weakest either.
