Newcastle United star forced to pull out of international squad and return to Tyneside
News on Monday morning that Newcastle United’s Ryan Fraser is one of three players that have been forced to drop out of the Scotland squad.
Rangers right-back Nathan Patterson and Norwich City midfielder Kenny McLean are the other two.
Scotland announcing that the trio had dropped out but giving no indication as to whether injury or covid related.
Patterson played the full 90 minutes on Saturday as Scotland beat Moldova 1-0 to keep their World Cup qualification hopes at a decent level, whilst McLean came on in the 73rd minute. Ryan Fraser left on the bench for the entirety of this World Cup qualifier.
That game followed Wednesday’s comfortable 2-0 win for Denmark in the earlier World Cup qualifier, Newcastle’s Ryan Fraser struck a very good low left foot shot with 10 minutes to go, which produced a World class save from Kasper Schmeichel. Allowing Denmark to see the match out comfortably.
Tuesday sees a key match in Group F, the sixth of ten group games, Austria v Scotland.
After five games Denmark look nailed on to qualify with a maximum 15 points but fighting it out for second you currently have Israel (10 points), Scotland (8) and Austria (7).
