Newcastle United ahead of Ronaldo show “A lot of those Geordie fans cannot believe their luck”

Roll up roll up for the Ronaldo show.

If there ever was a football match that sees Newcastle United and their fans as the ultimate stooges, fall guys, easy touches, making up the numbers…then it is Saturday.

The stage set for Mike Ashley’s patsy, Manchester United worshipping Steve Bruce, to lead his team into Old Trafford and roll over.

Ahead of the match, former Man Utd and England star, Paul Parker, has been having his say.

Parker reckons there is no way Ronaldo will not be in the starting eleven and that the player himself will insist on being named in the team to play against Newcastle United.

The fact that Ronaldo was released early from the Portugal squad and will now have plenty of preparation time before Saturday, has surely ensured that barring injury, he will start against Newcastle.

Paul Parker though declares: ‘They [Newcastle United] will want to be party poopers. Steve Bruce had a good run at the end of last season with some unbelievable results.’ Hmmm, following a run of only two wins in twenty one matches, Newcastle did grab a handful of wins late on last season, though ‘unbelievable’ is stretching it. West Ham handed the win to Newcastle on a plate by gifting goals and a man advantage, whilst the last two matches were wins over Fulham and Sheffield United and Fulham, the pair of them already relegated by them.

The last two seasons have seen Steve Bruce lead his team to easy 3-1 and 4-1 wins for Man Utd, the fear is surely that on Saturday we are set to see a typical negative Bruce set-up which will gift wrap total domination to the home side.

The role that the visitors are supposed to be signing up for, is perfectly summed up by this patronising line from Paul Parker: ‘A lot of those Geordie fans cannot believe their luck that they’ve got a ticket for this and all of a sudden it’s turned into a festival.’

The actual reality is that this Man Utd away game took a lot longer than most NUFC visits to sell out and even after it became clear that Ronaldo was going to be set to make his second Man U debut, there wasn’t any mad rush for the remaining tickets.

Newcastle fans clearly expected to stand by and be extra cheerleaders for the return of Ronaldo, know our place.

Cannot believe our luck? As Newcastle United supporters, if we didn’t have bad luck then we’d have no luck at all!

Paul Parker speaking to Talking Devils podcast:

“There’s no way in a million years can he have Ronaldo on the bench…it would be ludicrous. Ronaldo wouldn’t allow that to happen!

“He sets himself challenges, one of them is to win something with United.

“Imagine if he won the European Cup again with United?

“That’s the standard of challenge he’s setting himself. He’s going to want to play in every game left to win the golden boot.

“He’d be the worst sub in the world especially when things aren’t going right.

“There are a lot of people paying silly money to attend this game and they don’t want to be singing about a player they idolise who is on the bench.

“Let’s not forget there’s another team.

“They [Newcastle United] will want to be party poopers.

Steve Bruce had a good run at the end of last season with some unbelievable results.

“This is a big occasion. You can’t just switch off and expect it to happen because of all the singing and dancing about one individual.

“A lot of those Geordie fans cannot believe their luck that they’ve got a ticket for this and all of a sudden it’s turned into a festival.”
