Today (Thursday 26 August) has seen the club release a training update of the Newcastle United players.

The images released, showing Newcastle United players training ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash with Southampton.

Today’s photos actually showed only 12 Newcastle United players training, from what we could see, with seemingly everybody who didn’t start against Burnley have a shift off.

Amongst the text that went with Thursday’s photo gallery, the Newcastle United players update included:

‘Steve Bruce had made nine changes for the cup tie, with the likes of Callum Wilson, Matt Ritchie and Federico Fernández rested completely, and all three trained ahead of the Saints clash.

Isaac Hayden was also back in training, with the knee injury he suffered at Aston Villa last weekend thankfully not as serious as first feared, and Paul Dummett is also pushing for a place in the squad after getting a good week of work under his belt.’

The photos published by Newcastle United this Thursday afternoon have featured the following 12 players from what we could see:

Thomas Allan, Miguel Almiron, Paul Dummett, Federico Fernandez, Mark Gillespie, Isaac Hayden, Dan Langley, Jacob Murphy, Matt Ritchie, Fabian Schar, Joe Willock, Callum Wilson

Good news on three counts.

Callum Wilson was missing from training images released by the club on Monday BUT looks / sounds fine for Saturday.

Likewise, great to hear that Paul Dummett could be ready to return against Southampton, maybe tighten this NUFC defence up.

Whilst also very good news that Isaac Hayden’s injury appears not to be as serious as first feared, with the midfielder potentially even starting against Southampton on Saturday.
