Newcastle United to have answer by 9pm on whether transfer is happening – Report

A strange Newcastle United transfer deadline day after fans woke this morning with no real expectations of any more signings for the first team squad.

We are now at 7pm as I write this and indeed there haven’t been any signings for NUFC and their first team squad today, so far.

Only four hours to go but there has seemingly been moves behind the scenes which led to the media swaying one way and then the other in terms of possible / potential Newcastle deals, with now another sway appearing to be in motion.

The 84th and final day of this transfer window brought confident mid-morning reports across the media saying that at last Steve Bruce was going to sign midfield target Hamza Choudhury on loan, with the possibility of that becoming a permanent deal at the end of the season.

The media also pushing the idea that a second deadline day transfer could also be possible, most likely a centre-back.

Those reports coming out in rapid succession from various media around 10am this morning, however, not much more than an hour later, we had a 180 degree u-turn.

The various media now saying that the word on the street was that no more deals would be allowed, including Hamza Choudhury, that this was now officially the end of Newcastle United’s transfer business. Having started and ended with Joe Willock.

The media clearly pointing to somebody from the club briefing them as to this now being the case.

The whole thing looking an embarrassing slap in the face for Steve Bruce from Mike Ashley. The NUFC Head Coach having kicked off this transfer window claiming we would see the arrival of at least three or four quality signings, yet not even being allowed now to add a loan signing to Joe Willock.

It was then reported from the East Midlands that Hamza Choudhury had trained as normal with Leicester this morning, further suggesting that there was no apparent likelihood of anything happening with NUFC and the midfielder.

One journalist close to Steve Bruce described how the NUFC Head Coach had been ‘shafted’ by Mike Ashley, Luke Edwards of The Telegraph saying that if he was Bruce he would have walked.

However…fast forward again to late afternoon / early evening and to a backdrop of media claims that Steve Bruce had on deadline day been pleading with Mike Ashley and his minions for one or two loan deals to still happen…we have yet another apparent 180 degrees u-turn.

Amongst others, The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards now saying that ‘things had changed’ once again with the club and that NUFC were now still working on ‘two possible deals before the deadline’ of 11pm tonight.

Edwards saying that his information was that there has now been progress and that whilst there are no guarantees, Hamza Choudhury and one other unnamed deal could still happen today.

With Choudhury, the man from The Telegraph says that he has been told that there should be a decision made by 9pm at the latest on whether the deal is going to happen.

If Newcastle United / Mike Ashley are indeed serious about any other deals happening, you do have to question exactly why it took 66 days to sign Joe Willock and why we are now on the 84th and very final day, trying to do one or two loan signings. Especially as four games have already gone by with Newcastle exiting the League Cup and picking up just one point from three Premier League matches.
