Young Boys have signed Yannick Toure.

The 20 year old now former Newcastle United striker, moving back to Switzerland.

Back in 2018, Newcastle paid compensation to the Swiss side in order to bring the then 17 year old forward to St James Park and big things were expected of him.

However, NUFC released Yannick Toure earlier in the summer at the end of his three year deal. Having offered no new contract, it means the striker became a free agent with no compensation due to Newcastle United if / when he signed for another club.

Yannick Toure had a lot of teams after him back in 2018 but said (see below) it was the Newcastle fans who played a big part in his decision to come to Tyneside, having watched NUFC beat Chelsea 3-0 on the final day of the 2017/18 Premier League season: ‘Newcastle won 3-0 and it was a great match. And I saw the fans, who were crazy. They live for football and are so passionate, and I like that very much.’

Yannick Toure now returns to Young Boys, who are the reigning Swiss champions, having won the title by a remarkable 31 points, losing only two league games all season.

Yannick Toure talking to the official club site – 13 August 2018:

“I have heard a lot about Newcastle United.

“I know it’s a famous club in England and I’m very, very happy to be here.

“There was a lot of interest in me, but I chose to come here because it’s a great and traditional club in England.

“I’m an offensive player and I like to score goals for the team. My position is a striker but I can play on the left and right.

“I want to work hard, to learn and ultimately to play for the first team.

“That is a very good challenge for me. It’s an opportunity for me to show what I’m capable of and have more game time.

“It will be an experience, an introduction to English football for me, because it’s something new for me. Maybe it will help me to establish myself.

“I came to the stadium and watched the Chelsea match (on the final day of the 2017/18 season), which was very good.

“Newcastle won 3-0 and it was a great match. And I saw the fans, who were crazy. They live for football and are so passionate, and I like that very much.”

Newcastle United Official Announcement – 16 August 2021:

‘Swiss forward Yannick Touré has rejoined former club Young Boys following his release from Newcastle United.

The 20-year-old was with the Bern-based outfit’s academy between 2011 and 2018, when he joined the Magpies as a 17-year-old.

And he has now signed a three-year deal with David Wagner’s side, who are the current Swiss Super League champions, after leaving United in June.

Touré didn’t make a first team appearance during his time on Tyneside, although he did play a handful of games in the EFL Trophy.

He was one of several youngsters to depart St. James’ Park this summer. One of them, Lugwig Francillette, has since joined Crawley Town while another, Owen Bailey, has signed for Gateshead.’
