Newcastle United make £13.5m offer for Jens Cajuste – RMC Sport
News on Wednesday morning that Newcastle United have allegedly made an official offer to buy Jens Cajuste.
Over in France, RMC Sport report that Newcastle have offered a deal of €14m (approx £11.8m) up front, plus €2m (approx £1.7m) in future bonuses.
Swedish midfielder Jens Cajuste turned 22 yesterday (10 August 2021) and currently plays for Danish club FC Midtjylland.
The reason that French media are reporting this claimed Newcastle United bid is because Ligue 1 club Rennes have been chasing the player for some time and have already had three bids rejected.
Whether it is Newcastle, Rennes, or another club, it definitely looks as though Jens Cajuste is leaving in this transfer window, as he has been left out of all competitive games so far to ensure no injury will hamper his departure, those matches including Champions League qualifiers against PSV and Celtic.
It was three weeks ago when we first heard that Newcastle United had made contact with the representatives of Jens Cajuste.
Media in Sweden – Sport Expressen – said that Newcastle were interested in signing the midfielder.
They reported that as well as Newcastle United, three other Premier League clubs have also made contact for initial talks, those three being Wolves, Leeds and Crystal Palace.
For some time it has been made clear that Steve Bruce wants to sign a more athletic box to box midfielder than Newcastle currently have and Jens Cajuste could potentially fit the bill.
Rennes are reported to have offered £10m plus bonuses but the Danish club’s asking price said to be £14m.
Jens Cajuste has five caps for Sweden and was part of their Euros squad this summer, though made only one brief appearance as a sub against Spain.
Jens Cajuste saw his fellow midfielder Frank Onyeka complete a move from Midtjylland to Brentford last month, so it looks like the Danish club are building up their cash reserves with Cajuste to follow next.
As things stand, we are on now day 64 of the transfer window with still not a single signing made, despite the season starting this weekend. Only 20 days left of the window after today, it ending on Tuesday 31 August.
The weekend brought news / claims that a transfer had been agreed with Arsenal for Joe Willock but nothing official since then, those weekend reports claiming that only personal terms with Willock needed to be sorted. As ever, nothing happens quickly at Newcastle United and many NUFC fans pointing out that Lionel Messi’s massive move to PSG has been sorted in the meantime.
It may be a leap of faith as things stand currently but a new look midfield featuring both Joe Willock and Jens Cajuste could give Newcastle United a far more energised engine room than the current pedestrian options of Shelvey, Hendrick, Hayden and the Longstaff brothers.
If Willock and / or Cajuste did come to Newcastle, then you’d anticipate one or more midfielders moving out to offset the cost and indeed make room in the squad.
Having waited this long, I think like many of you I am taking the stance of I’ll believe it when I see it, in terms of having confidence in better quality players arriving in this window.
Here’s hoping they do because Newcastle United desperately need an injection of more quality players.
