Newcastle team v West Ham – Based on NUFC players with most pre-season football
With now just seven days to go until Newcastle host West Ham, who will be in the starting eleven to take on the Hammers?
Interesting to see how many minutes on the pitch for each of the Newcastle United players in the pre-season friendlies and have the right players got the right number of minutes this summer?
These are the highest to lowest:
352 Sean Longstaff
149 Matty Longstaff
In an ideal world, Newcastle United’s best players would be right up at the top of that list.
Instead, between them, the likes of Dubravka, ASM, Almiron and Wilson have only played a collective 446 minutes from a possible 2,160 minutes.
Dubravka playing no part at all in the six friendlies, whilst Miguel Almiron got his first 45 minutes against Norwich.
Callum Wilson tops the quartet with 246 minutes, having returned to play 45 minutes yesterday after missing two friendlies with a hamstring injury.
Then ASM has 155 minutes, which includes 45 minutes against the Canaries after ‘illness’ saw him miss the three friendlies before Norwich.
Martin Dubravka obviously won’t be involved against West Ham but we wait to see what risks Steve Bruce is prepared to take with the other trio, after not having the most ideal pre-season preparations.
Freddie Woodman had shared goalkeeping duties equally with Mark Gillespie in the previous three matches, but having played the full Norwich game and accumulating more minutes (225) than any other NUFC keeper in pre-season, the 24 year old looks sure to make his Premier League debut next Sunday.
So based on pre-season minutes and players most prepared for the new season, this would be the Newcastle team v West Ham:
Murphy, Lascelles, Fernandez, Lewis, Ritchie
Sean Longstaff, Hayden, Hendrick
