Liverpool Official Announcement – Signing of young Newcastle United star
Liverpool have completed the signing of Newcastle United’s best young prospect.
In an official announcement on Thursday morning, Liverpool revealing (see below) that they have taken Bobby Clark to Anfield.
The deal had been rumoured for some time but now has become reality.
The 16 year old attacking midfielder moving from Tyneside to Merseyside.
The move is of course all the more shocking though, when taken into account that Bobby’s father is Lee Clark, one of Kevin Keegan’s ‘entertainers’ of the 1990s.
You can only assume that Bobby Clark has made the move on the advice of lifelong Newcastle United fan Lee.
Something which seriously points to problems at Newcastle when it comes to young homegrown players seeing their futures elsewhere.
Seeing how the Longstaff brothers have both been messed around by Mike Ashley and his minions can’t have helped, when it comes to the Clarks deciding Bobby Clark’s future, nor indeed any other promising young player coming through.
Mike Ashley repeatedly refusing to allow proper funding of the Academy, along with his overall refusal to allow any investment in the infrastructure of the club, never mind realistic first team squad funding.
Back in 2017, Newcastle United’s best young prospect at the time, England Under 17 star Lewis Gibson moved to Everton. The defender currently on loan at Sheffield Wednesday for the season.
Back in December 2019, Lee Clark responded to rumours of son Bobby joining Manchester United or Tottenham:
“All the reports about my son Bobby are purely speculation.
“I’m here for Bobby as his father to give him advice. I’ve been where he is at this moment in time.
“We are a very, very proud family that he has been selected to represent England against the Republic of Ireland and Turkey. It’s a great feat so we’re extremely proud. He’s getting coached very well at Newcastle’s academy. Everyone who is there and the various different teams he plays in are terrific.
“Ben Dawson, the head of coaching, I have a good relationship with and I have regular contact with him and talk about how Bobby is getting on. And I let them guys get on with coaching him and looking after him. They are doing a terrific job.
“I’m always here if he wants to talk about things away from his coaches which sometimes he might want to do. But I’m certainly not in there telling him he should be doing this and doing that. That’s up to his coaches.
“He’s going to have ups, like the stuff with England, and he’s going to have downs, it’s part of the young player’s career, and he’ll have us as a family when those tough times come. But overall I’m really happy with how he is going at the academy and the help he is getting there.”
