Aston Villa fans interesting comments on Newcastle United match post-Jack Grealish

Aston Villa fans watched on as their team beat Newcastle United 2-0 at Villa Park in November 2019.

Then January 2021 they watched on from home as their team comfortably beat NUFC 2-0.

What do Aston Villa fans think will happen this time, the first full house at Villa Park now covid restrictions lifted.

An interesting mix of views and no surprise Allan Saint-Maximin gets a mention or two…

The underlying message though is that overall the Aston Villa fans are expecting a win on Saturday, especially with Steve Bruce masterminding the opposition.

Aston Villa fans commenting via their Villa Talk message board:

‘Sold out Villa Park – memories of relegating them in 2009 – Ollie hopefully back. I’m confident!’

‘On top first 15 and crowd will be fine.

I would imagine the thrill of being back to a full Villa Park will create quite some noise for kick-off.

There’s no denying that although season tickets sales have been great, it’s going to be an expectant crowd as well. Hurting from Grealish but excited by Ings and Bailey.

Newcastle did improve after Jones went in towards the end of the season, but as we know Steve Bruce will probably do plenty to help us.

A point would be a bad result, none a real stinker. A poor performance is unacceptable in this fixture.’

‘Newcastle is the type of team that will let you play.

Won’t be in our faces as much.

Probably that one team who suit us the most.’

‘They have ASM, Willock, Wilson, Almeron….they are not the dumb bells some would have us think.

If we employ the right positional discipline and bide our time, we might be ok…..This all guns blazing ill disciplined stuff, will have us nursing disappoinment once again.’

‘It’s inexcusable to not dominate a match against a Steve Bruce team. I would expect we’ll score enough to win with that dominance.’

‘I watched the Newcastle / West Ham and thought Newcastle looked OK going forward but sh.te defensively. . They commit going forward & are very susceptible to the counter. I think the game suits Watkins more than Ings but either one should have a field day against them.’

‘Us and Newcastle has been like a derby game ever since we sent them down in the last game of the season a while ago.’

‘I understand that and we have 3 for the price of one..all makes sense.

but Jack held the ball and drew players, that took pressure off others…..look we have to wait and see how they adjust without him..In theory we should be stronger, in practice, is something else.

If we have 3 new players in attacking positions all giving 8 out of 10 then, I agree.’

Whatever shape and personnel we go for I just hope smith has a plan for dealing with ASM because if we thought Sarr was unplayable he’s going to take it up a notch.’

‘I just hope we start on Saturday, with a full house and don’t think we have to win the game in the first 15 minutes, for the fans.

This team need to show some control, patience, maturity and grit …..and wait for their opportunities.

They need to expect some threat from Newcastle, not just go gungho and be caught out.’

‘Upfront I’d have Ings and Watkins interchanging, Bailey in his preferred position on he right up against Ritchie and Clark, who will struggle with his trickery / pace. If Watkins isn’t fit then it’s a toss up for me between starting Wes up top (I know but you’ve got to give him a chance right?) or putting JPB on the left and Ings up top. Probably leaning towards the latter.

In midfield, ideally Sanson in place of Ramsey if fit. Luiz in place of Nakamba if he’s got an ounce of energy left him him. There is then the potential to then bring on Buendia if we need to chase the game.

In defence I would drop Targett. It sounds harsh after one bad game but Newcastle will almost certainly stick ASM on him after last weekend. Young has the experience and mental strength to manage him better.’

‘2nd game of the season and it’s a must-win.

Atmosphere at VP should be excellent. Tottenham Stadium was electric on Sunday, I’d love to see that kind of energy at VP, but it’s only Newcastle, so..

It’ll be good to see Bailey play possibly the full 90. Eager to see Buendia bounce back.

Will Targett stay benched?

Will Cash sit?

Will Ollie be back?

How will we line up?

So many questions…’

‘There’s nothing riding on it this early on but if we fail to beat the Barcodes there’ll be a lot of questions asked and the boo boys will almost certainly be out in full force.’

‘I’d bring Luiz in.

Newcastle will stand off him as usual and he can get on the ball and dictate play and hopefully get it out wide for likes of Bailey to hurt them and push them back.

No question whatsoever over his match fitness given he’s been playing all summer so give him 65-70 minutes and then bring on Nakamba to hopefully see the game out which he’s more effective at.

One issue of course is ASM so just hope DS has some sort of plan rather than just playing Young there and crossing his fingers. They’ll probably throw Willock into the starting line up as well.’

‘Problem with ASM is unlike Adama he actually seem to have end product.

Which side is he playing on?’

‘The ones that look like they are wearing jail pyjamas.

Newcastle.’

‘Watching the Newcastle game [v West Ham] Saint Maximin terrifies me.’

‘I am not fearing Newcastle anymore

I wonder what happened in those 6 minutes.’

‘Total domination, complete obliteration, hattrick from Ings and a goal and 2 assists from Leon Bailey.’

‘We have to be patient as fans and the results will come, it will take time for the new players to settle in and gel but even after one match, the early signs are good, 1 assist for Leon Bailey and 1 goal for Danny Ings in the first match against Watford away.

We have to find that fine balance between attacking and defending, it will take time but the foundations are in place now.

In the short time that Dean Smith has been in charge at the club, he has transformed us from mid-table in The Championship to mid-table in the Premier League. He has done a fantastic job and will only continue to do so hopefully.’

‘In my opinion, when we had Grealish, our one and only tactic was to pass to Grealish. Now, we have different options.’

‘Watched the Newcastle game, Saint Maximin terrifies me.

He is absolutely ridiculous.’
