Rotherham fans with interesting comments after Newcastle United get lucky 1-1 draw
Rotherham fans watched on as their team drew 1-1 with Newcastle United.
The home side taking an early lead and dominating the first half, could and should have been two or three up by the break.
Newcastle had a decent spell early in the second half but still struggling to create many clear chances, then after a host of substitutions disrupted the later stages, NUFC ended up with Jeff Hendrick playing as the main striker and he scored late on from a corner!
Interesting reading the comments from Rotherham fans below – before, during and after the match.
Clearly they weren’t expecting great things from their own team, which is a major worry when you consider how poor Newcastle looked for much of the game, especially in that first half.
Interesting that despite playing well and having been the better team against Premier League opposition – deserving to win, they aren’t getting too excited as they also appreciate Newcastle might not be any great shakes…
Yet again, with 1,488 amongst the 4,370 crowd on a Tuesday night, the travelling Newcastle fans were the most impressive thing about NUFC.
Rotherham fans commenting via their Millers Mad message board:
‘That team looks very threadbare.’
‘So one senior pro on the bench, Micky mouse outfit comes to mind, had to cancel Belper match cos not enough players to fill the fixture ? Do we flog the same players on Friday or start the youth team ?
It’s put the fans, and players alike on a massive downer hence why only 450 went to Grimsby and not many going tonight!
Somebody needs to massively up their game or move out !’
‘Positive start for the Millers, who have taken the game to their Premier League opponents.’
‘(Newcastle fan from Wallsend) Michael Smith will have dreamt about that last night!
He gets on the end of Miller’s perfect cross to give the Millers an early lead.’
‘Just back from match, really enjoyed the game, very competitive match, although Newcastle, without Saint maximin, Almiron and Shelvey did look more like a mid table championship side to me in the first half, and we could and should have had more than 1 goal by half time, we were that dominant.
Every one of our starting eleven played really well, but Newcastle started the 2nd half the better and only a wonder save from the Viking kept us in front.
Both teams then made lots of subs in last 30 mins and I was really impressed with Greaves and Kayode when they came on.
We also brought a player on up front with no number on his shirt so I assumed the trialist? Think he could be worth another look.
All in all I enjoyed the game and looking forward to boro match on Friday UTM.’
‘Despite a few Newcastle players missing that was a strong side Bruce put out.
Quite a few good performances, Smith is looking good, Miller put some quality crosses in, not all of them though, Chieo looks like he’s improving and getting back to full fitness, Icky looked strong at the back, Woody was well…Woody, got caught out once by Callum Wilson,
Barlaser had a quiet game although one long crossfield pass was superb and he always made himself available for a pass, Freddie never stopped running although he didn’t get many chances on goal, Wiles had a quiet but steady game,
Jamie Lindsay, never stopped running and challenging, reminded me of a Jack Russell Terrier I used to own.
Game went a bit pear shaped due to the amount of substitutions made.
Still a lot to do and room for improvement.’
Newcastle United fans booing.’
‘Well done Millers now go and get some chuffin players RUFC.’
‘Now imagine us with reinforcements. We have a really strong core, help em out.’
‘Newcastle brought nearly 1500 fans to the game!’
‘Would have been good to show 2 or 3 new signings at half time, but we can dream.’
‘1483 Toons and yes they did boo.
Also sang your just a sh.t Steve McLaren to Bruce, a funny moment.
Our 1st team is really good, whats worrying me and most on hear we have no back up…2 full backs and maybe a couple more elsewhere and we are set, Warne has a week to sort it.’
