Newcastle United see bid turned down for defender – Report
Now reported that Dion Sanderson has been the subject of a bid by Newcastle United.
Tim Spiers, who covers Wolves for The Athletic, says the West Midlands club have turned down Newcastle’s offer.
Spiers says that his information is that Newcastle United offered £1m for Dion Sanderson but it was instantly and easily rejected.
The 21 year old spent last season (2020/21) on loan at Sunderland, with the central defender playing in 26 League One matches, including 19 as a starter.
The man from The Athletic states that Dion Sanderson has turned down a new contract offer from Wolves but that his info is that they will come back with a better deal and ideally want the defender to sign a new deal (he has currently one year left currently plus Wolves have an option on an extra year), then the 21 year going out on loan to a Championship club this season to continue his development.
Unless you are a hopeless optimist…It has been made clear that Mike Ashley will only allow loans and frees this summer, plus maybe the odd one or two bargain basement buys.
With Steve Bruce desperate to bring in a younger more mobile centre-back and so little transfer cash made available by Mike Ashley. no surprise if this is the level Newcastle United are now having to pitch to, in order to potentially make a signing.
Though quite clearly Wolves have seen Newcastle’s opening bid as a total joke.
