Newcastle United final pre-season match at risk due to Norwich Covid cases?
Newcastle United have only two more scheduled friendlies before the Premier League season kicks off in two weeks time.
Away at Burton on Friday (30 July) night and then Norwich at home on Saturday 7 August.
However, Norwich City have had a Covid outbreak in their first team squad.
Yesterday (Wednesday 28 July) Norwich cancelled their friendly against Coventry which was set to take place last night.
Now on Thursday morning that has been followed by a further announcement by the Canaries (see below), where they have revealed Saturday’s friendly with Sheffield United is now called off.
Newcastle United have already seen Covid disrupt pre-season with Karl Darlow ending up in hospital after a positive test, whilst Mark Gillespie and Freddie Woodman had to self isolate as close contacts.
Newcastle originally had six pre-season friendlies and due to the Darlow positive test, they lost one of them, with an under 23 squad playing at Harrogate instead of first team players. The last thing they need is for things to escalate further at Norwich and lose their only home friendly, which is set to be the final warm up match ahead of West Ham at home on Sunday 15 August.
Hopefully things will improve at Norwich rather than escalating further in the coming days.
