Callum Wilson loving scoring first goal in front of Newcastle United fans – Watch it here
For Callum Wilson it was a novel experience.
The first time he had played in front of the Newcastle United fans (apart from the unofficial NUFC contingent who managed to get into the York match).
Superb backing all night, with 3,145 in the away end, almost outnumbering home supporters in the 6,787 crowd.
Then in the 58th minute the moment came.
A lovely move (watch below) involving half a dozen Newcastle players knocking the ball around, as maybe Doncaster tired.
An ASM flick helped open things up, an excellent left foot through ball by Fraser, then expertly finished off by Callum Wilson in front of those 3,145 travelling fans.

The fans then serenading the new number 9…

Here’s hoping we see many more goals from Callum Wilson once the season proper kicks off, I have every confidence just so long as the rest of the team can give a far better supply line than Wilson saw last season. The striker scoring his 12 Premier League goals from only 49 shots / chances created.
After the 3-2 win, Callum Wilson telling Sky Sports what wearing the number 9 shirt is all about, especially now the fans are back:
“Obviously it is the first time I have played in front of them [Newcastle fans].
“What a club, the fans…they have travelled down here on a Friday night, sang their hearts out, some of them with their tops off – it’s crazy.
“It is what Newcastle United is about, it’s what I’m looking forward to, that first game of the season [against West Ham].
“It [having fans inside grounds] gives us that little bit more, that 10% extra. Only a pre-season friendly and 3,000 of them here. A nice feeling.
“Nice to get off the mark in pre-season, get the feel in front of goal again.
“Just trying to build a little momentum going into the season.
“It’s great to have that [number 9] shirt, I try not to think about it too much as you don’t want it to affect your game.
“You are up there for the badge on the front and the number on the back.
“It’s all about then performing in the present moment, get the goals to help the team.”
