Burton boss urges players not to feel ’embarrassed’ about losing to Newcastle United

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink watched on as his Burton Albion side lost on Friday night.

An early strike from Jacob Murphy and Joelinton’s header just after the break, giving Newcastle a comfortable 2-0 win.

Burton losing in their final friendly before kicking off away at Shrewsbury next Saturday (7 August) in their opening League One match.

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink was disappointed with the two goals conceded, saying the ball should have been cleared before the first goal was created, whilst the visitors getting the second goal from a corner was a disappointment to the Burton boss.

However, his overall message to the Burton players, was that they didn’t need to feel ’embarrassed’ about losing to Steve Bruce’s Newcastle United.

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink talking to the official club site:

“They [Newcastle United] are a very good team and gave us different problems to Leicester on Saturday.

“The first goal we conceded we need to clear the ball early on.

“The second goal was from a corner and was disappointing.

“Overall our structure was good and they do ask you questions but I think it was a good day for us and the fans.

“I don’t think we have to be embarrassed.

“I had a plan but we need to adjust [due to injuries].

“I always like players to fight for places so we will have a look this week where they are and we will prepare for the game [Shrewsbury on Saturday 7 August – Burton’s first League One game of the season] and decide who will play.”
