The question we were asking Newcastle supporters on Tuesday: ‘Is Mike Ashley allowing Newcastle United to make a serious bid for Joe Willock?’

Mikel Arteta stated as the season came to a close, that Joe Willock will be playing for Arsenal in the 2021/22 season.

However, a lot of journalists insisted that this was simply the first step in Arsenal seeing how much money they can get for the midfielder this summer, whether he goes to Newcastle United or wherever.

As for the Arsenal loan player himself, he said goodbye the day after leading Newcastle to a 2-0 win at Fulham, making it a goal in each of seven PL matches in a row.

Joe Willock via his personal social media – Monday 24 May 2021:

“Newcastle United family – Thank you for rocking with me.

“I will never forget the love you have showed me, the team, the fans, the city will always hold a special place in my heart.

“#UTM (Up The Maggies).

“Goodbye.”

Joe Willock arrived at St James Park having scored one goal in 40 Premier League appearances for Arsenal.

Only 111 days later, Joe Willock..:

Had become the youngest Premier League player to score in six consecutive games.

Had become the youngest Premier League player to score in seven consecutive matches.

Had scored 8 Premier League goals for Newcastle in 11 starts and 3 sub appearances.

Had scored 3 more Premier League goals than any Arsenal player (Aubameyang and Lacazette both 5) since start of February.

In 14 Premier League games had scored 2 more goals than Joelinton has scored in 69 PL matches.

In his last 389 minutes for Newcastle United, had scored more Premier League goals (7) than Joelinton (6) has scored in 4,687 minutes.

Had directly helped Newcastle United pick up 17 points in the 8 matches he scored in.

For me the big question isn’t so much whether Newcastle will buy Joe Willock, it is whether Mike Ashley will allow NUFC to even have a proper try at trying to sign the 21 year old?

It would appear to be a no-brainer for pretty much every fan to put forward a competitive bid on such a promising player, who hopefully will retain an emotional tie to Tyneside when it comes to deciding where to go, if Arsenal as expected are willing to cash in.

So what about Mike Ashley?

Thanks very much to all Newcastle fans who voted, these are the results for the three options we gave, supporters able to pick just one:

Is Mike Ashley allowing Newcastle United to make a serious bid for Joe Willock?

9% – Yes, Ashley is allowing a serious bid to be made

51% – Yes, Ashley is allowing a bid to be made but one Arsenal will laugh at

40% – No, Ashley is allowing no bid at all to be made

The results couldn’t be more conclusive, with only 9%, roughly one in eleven, of the Newcastle United fans voting, believing that Mike Ashley is allowing NUFC to seriously bid for Joe Willock.
