Newcastle United interested in signing Cameron Carter-Vickers – Report
This Tuesday morning has brought news that Newcastle United are interested in signing Cameron Carter-Vickers.
With The Athletic reporting that Graeme Jones has recommended to Steve Bruce that Newcastle make a move for the central defender.
A USMNT international, the 23 year old was actually born in England and has been at Tottenham since the age of 11.
However, he has found it pretty much impossible to get a chance at first team level with Spurs, not a single minute of Premier League football and only four games back in the 2016/17 season in the domestic cups, two in the FA Cup and two in the League Cup.
This has led to six different loan spells at six different Championship clubs, in order for Cameron Carter-Vickers to get regular football.
Those half dozen clubs having been Sheffield United, Ipswich, Swansea, Stoke, Luton and Bournemouth.
Graeme Jones had Cameron Carter-Vickers on loan during his disastrous spell as manager at Luton, then the central defender came to Bournemouth on loan last (2020/21) season, presumably on Jones’ recommendation before he (Graeme Jones) later moved to Newcastle United.
The Athletic say that Kristoffer Ajer is still Newcastle’s preferred target as they look for a young centre-back but that with clubs including Bayer Leverkusen and Norwich also competing for the Norwegian, Cameron Carter-Vickers has also now become of NUFC interest after Jones’ recommendation.
This is now the fourteenth day of the Premier League transfer window and no sign of any action whatsoever from Newcastle United. The NUFC squad set to report back in only 13 days (Monday 5 July) to begin pre-season preparations.
