Mmmm…Tangerines and Shrimps

With Newcastle United having already ended their season, I took a bit of interest in the play-offs over the Bank Holiday weekend and thought it was fantastic that Brentford were promoted from the Championship after their near miss last year.

I fancied the Bees and I was particularly pleased for Ivan Toney…but also felt a little for our Swansea loanee Freddie Woodman.

Both lads have obviously got bright futures ahead of them wherever they might end up plying their trade.

Then into League One the next day and it was the mackems’ new nemesis Lincoln City, against the team who finished strongest in the third Tier…Blackpool.

After the pleasure the Imps had given me a week earlier, my heart said that they would do the business. After taking a first minute lead they eventually threw it away, but should feel proud of themselves, after coming up from the National League in recent seasons.

Now at this stage I was a little bit concerned for all of those Wearside savings clubs.

Where would they be able to have their annual seaside weekend jaunt away….with Blackpool out of the picture?

Needless to say, this dilemma was soon remedied 24 hours later when I tuned into Morecambe v Newport.

The Shrimps were slight underdogs before the game but finally decided the tie with an extra-time penalty, Morecambe of course having lost 7-0 at home to Newcastle United earlier this season in the League Cup.

With all the shenanigans throughout this season regarding the European Super League and the so-called big six cartel being catered for in their every whim and fancy by the fawning EPL…

I have found my recent little forays into the lower echelons of the Championship and EFL both entertaining and rewarding.
