Harrogate Town now advertising Newcastle United kick-off time amidst doubts about fans
Only 12 days until the NUFC squad returns for pre-season on Monday 5 July, whilst it is 26 days until Newcastle United kick off their pre-season friendly schedule on Sunday 18 July.
Newcastle United travel to York City for a 2pm kick-off on that Sunday (18 June).
Whilst with Steve Bruce splitting their squad in two, Newcastle will also play at Harrogate Town that day.
It had been kick-off time ‘to be confirmed’ for the Harrogate match and now the home side are advertising that as a 2pm kick-off as well.
From the Harrogate Town official site:
No news / confirmation from Newcastle United on this Harrogate match kick-off time but we are now used to hearing updates first via the opposition, rather than from NUFC.
No news on tickets so far for either of these first two Newcastle friendlies of pre-season and with this date (18 July) currently scheduled to be the day before lockdown restrictions are lifted in England, it remains to be seen just how many, if any, fans will be allowed into either the York or Harrogate matches.
If decent numbers aren’t allowed, it will feel a real kick in the teeth for both Harrogate and York, as they will be denied decent pay days via the turnstiles.
Something which will feel even more unfair if not many / any are allowed to attend the friendlies, due to the announcement today that for both the two semi-finals and final (which is seven days before the two NUFC friendlies) of Euro 2020 at Wembley, the Government are allowing 75% of capacity, which will mean more than 60,000 allowed at each of the three matches.
When you think of all the problems of large numbers getting to and from Wembley, as well as the mixing inside the stadium, it would feel really unfair if a few thousand fans, including Newcastle supporters, aren’t allowed into each of the two friendlies.
There are only two other Newcastle friendlies confirmed so far.
Tuesday 27 July – Newcastle United away at League One Rotherham, kick-off at 7pm.
Friday 30 July – NUFC friendly away at League One Burton Albion, with a 7.45pm kick off.
