Newcastle United goalkeeper Freddie Woodman was nominated for the PFA Fans’ Player of The Year for the 2020/21 Championship season.

On loan at Swansea, Woodman won the Golden Glove award for most clean sheets (20) but amongst the nominations for player of the year, was up against two former NUFC teammates, Ivan Toney and Adam Armstrong.

The duo the top scorers in the 2020/21 season, Toney with 33 goals and Armstrong with 28.

Involved in 31 goals (scoring and assists), Emiliano Buendia was also nominated, having been signed by Villa for £33m from Norwich.

The other four nominations Norwich’s Teemu Pukki who got 26 goals and Cardiff’s Kieffer Moore who notched 20 goals.

Now Blackburn Rovers have revealed (see below) that it is Adam Armstrong who has won the public vote and is the Championship’s PFA Fans Player of the Year for 2020-21.

Ivan Toney has been promoted to the Premier League with Brentford and now Adam Armstrong is hotly tipped to follow, with a number of PL clubs interested.

Blackburn Rovers Official Announcement:

‘Rovers are delighted to announce that Adam Armstrong has been crowned the Championship’s PFA Fans Player of the Year for 2020-21.

The star striker came out on top in the public vote following a sensational season in front of goal in Rovers colours.

Armstrong was up against Brentford’s Ivan Toney, Norwich City’s Emi Buendia and Teemu Pukki, Swansea City’s Freddie Woodman and Cardiff City’s Kieffer Moore for the prestigious prize, which is sponsored by Bristol Street Motors.

The 24-year-old, who was named in the PFA’s Championship Team of the Year earlier this month, enjoyed an incredible individual campaign in 2020-21, in which he scored 28 league goals.

His overall haul of 29 goals and three hat-tricks was the most by a Rovers player in 25 years, since Alan Shearer scored 31 goals and bagged five trebles in the 1995-96 season.

The latest success means that Armstrong has scooped a hat-trick of accolades, having won Rovers’ Players’ Player of the Year and Junior Rovers Player of the Year awards at the end of the season.

Congratulations, Arma!’
