Billy Gilmour set to sign for Norwich City despite Newcastle United registering interest – Report
Billy Gilmour made headlines with an eyecatching performance against England last Friday.
The Chelsea player and his Scotland teammates well worth their point and indeed, against a woeful negative England side that had only one effort on target, the Scots were undoubtedly the team that deserved to win it if anybody did.
Billy Gilmour swiftly made more headlines, as the midfielder was then revealed to have tested positive for the virus, meaning that he and Chelsea teammates Mount and Chilwell went into self-isolation and missed the third group matches on Tuesday.
With Scotland now knocked out of the Euros, Billy Gilmour will be looking to now build on his promising first start for Scotland, with regular first team football at club level.
Tempted away by Chelsea at the age of 16 after coming through the Rangers Academy, Billy Gilmour suffering the fate of so many young players who go to Stamford Bridge.
Only 191 minutes of Premier League action in 2019/20, then little improvement in 2020/21 with 260 minutes of PL football.
On Thursday morning the Northern Echo have reported that the short-term future for Billy Gilmour is set to be sorted sooner rather than later.
The newspaper saying that their information is that despite Newcastle United registering their interest in taking the player on loan, instead Billy Gilmour is set to sign up with Norwich for the 2021/22 season.
They say that Thomas Tuchel has made the decision and believes Norwich are ideal at this stage of Gilmour’s development, as they will give the midfielder regular first team football in his preferred position. The Chelsea midfielder set to step into the shoes of Argentine international Buendia, who the Canaries have sold to Villa for £33m.
The Chelsea boss keen to get this loan deal sorted ASAP so that Billy Gilmour has the best chance of hitting the season running, Newcastle United like most other Premier League clubs are returning at the start of July to begin pre-season preparations.
Now on the 16th day of the 2021 summer transfer window, not many Newcastle fans optimistic of signings in time to start those pre-season preparations on Monday 5 July.
