Aston Villa announce record signing as Newcastle confident of keeping Hendrick, Muto and Carroll

Aston Villa have made headlines on Thursday afternoon.

The Premier League club announcing (see below) a club record signing.

They have spent a reported £33m+ on Argentine international Emiliano Buendia.

Meanwhile, over at Newcastle United, this is what Steve Bruce had to say when looking ahead to this 2021 summer transfer window opening: “I think what you are going to see, especially during the pandemic, is that we haven’t seen many big transfers [in January 2021] and I can’t see things changing in the summer.”

Interesting.

We are only into the second day of the Premier League transfer window having been open and already Premier League clubs have agreed ten incoming signings so far, including those drawn up and agreed ahead of the window opening.

West Ham and Watford have already agreed to sign three players each, with Liverpool, Palace, Southampton and Aston Villa one apiece.

The best part of £100m already committed by Premier League clubs and we are only into the second day of the 2021 summer transfer window.

With almost 12 weeks remaining of the window, I think Steve Bruce may definitely be proved correct regarding a lack of signings / spending for one particular club, but as for the other 19 Premier League clubs…? I wouldn’t be so sure.

Steve Bruce and Mike Ashley no doubt having their people come up with positive spins on the desperate times ahead for Newcastle fans, Bruce no doubt at some point will be saying how pleased he is with the form in pre-season of top quality internationals who are already at NUFC, the likes of Hendrick, Muto and Carroll…

I can’t wait.

Aston Villa Official Announcement -Thursday 10 June 2021:

‘Aston Villa is delighted to confirm the signing of Emiliano Buendia for a club record transfer fee.

The 24-year-old, who has signed a five-year deal with the club, joins from Norwich City after completing his medical and finalising personal terms following Argentina’s World Cup qualifying match with Colombia.

Head Coach Dean Smith said: “Emiliano has just completed an outstanding season in a championship-winning Norwich side with 31 combined goals and assists and was named player of the season across the league.

“He is equally capable as a wide attacker or as a number 10 and is a great addition to our attacking options. We are delighted to have made such an exciting signing so early in the summer and look forward to Emi joining up with us for a full pre-season.”
