This would give Arsenal fans the right to have a good moan
Arsenal up next then.
A massive opportunity awaits Steve Bruce and his team to win today and make it 12 points above the relegation zone with 12 points to play for.
It probably doesn’t matter what happens with Arsenal today as far as the result hurting our chances of survival goes, as it looks highly unlikely that Fulham or West Brom, are all the sudden going to go on and win four games in a row and NUFC not to gain a single point in the process.
Safety is done and dusted, it’s just a matter of time until we will have official mathematical confirmation that Newcastle United will be in the Premier League for at least one more season.
Mike Ashley and Steve Bruce will celebrate it, I doubt though that many Newcastle United fans will be over the moon with just staying up for another season.
Every fan wants to see progression, ambition, signs that things are moving in the right direction, Mike Ashley and Steve Bruce have simply failed to give us that with another season in the bottom half of the table, terrible football week in week out, no obvious signs that we can look forward to next season with genuine optimism.
Steve Bruce could very well beat the 45 points total Rafa Benitez achieved in his last season, finish 12th come end of the season, but I still wouldn’t view it as progression. As I, like many others, expect better given the fact that we have seen a net £100m spent on the team since Bruce’s arrival in 2019 and haven’t looked anywhere near good enough to finish in the top half.
I will sound like a broken record on this but again I have to blame Steve Bruce for the failure this season. It doesn’t matter what he does, 80 points in 71 games, given the money spent, is simply not good enough.
Arsenal are bang average to be honest and if as expected they are going to rest key players and focus on their semi final match next Thursday with Villarreal in the Europa League, then there’s no excuse if we don’t get points out of this game today.
Our record against Arsenal is abysmal and we have only won twice against them in 11 years, but surely we should have the confidence to at least have a good go at them today, not just sit back and try to hang on again for 90 minutes.
This is a dreadful Arsenal team to tell the truth, compared to when you look at some of the great sides they had with Arsene Wenger over the years. I have absolutely no sympathy for the Arsenal fans though. They are still challenging for silverware most seasons, despite going backwards massively the last six years or so.
In contrast, Newcastle fans have had nothing but battles against the drop and actual relegations these past 14 years . I’d happily take ninth or so in the table and have a semi-final in the Europa League to look forward to. Yet the media brand Newcastle United fans ungrateful and overdemanding, with not a word said about the likes of Arsenal fans complaining and hounding Wenger out and complaining about only winning a few FA Cups (four of the last seven).
Arsenal fans are welcome to swap with Newcastle supporters, then you would have a genuine reason to have a good moan.
