These 3 Newcastle United players must be retained if no takeover set to happen this summer
Another Newcastle United season has gone by, the latest year long campaign that I feel glad to see the back of has passed by.
Another year of terrible football awaits, with Steve Bruce highly likely to keep his job and lead the team for another 12 months.
What to expect?
Well for me it all depends on three Newcastle United players, if we are to take the hope from the respectable run of form of 17 points in the last 10 games (five wins, two draws and three defeats).
Allan Saint Maximin, Callum Wilson and the highly popular Joe Willock, simply have to be at the club once again next season.
Without these three, as far as I’m concerned they’re either as good as relegated, or at the very best relying yet again on three teams being even worse.
I may be slightly harsh on Steve Bruce in saying all that but I’m not going to just look at the last 10 games and look at the slight improvement in the table, seeing us finish the one place higher in the table than the previous season.
Steve Bruce can fool the media, he can fool the football pundit ‘experts’ with this 12th place reasonable finish in the table , but he’s not going to fool me.
A run of two wins in nineteen league games still happened in this league campaign, that was the equivalent of half a season of Premier League matches and only TWO victories.
The team finished with a negative goal difference of -16, conceding 62 goals and scoring 46 goals, that doesn’t encourage me or show me this is a team on the up. In 38 games, I only need one hand to count with my fingers how many performances have been good and / or enjoyable to watch. That’s not good enough for anybody that supports Newcastle United.
Back to my point about the three Newcastle United players I mentioned – Willock, Saint-Maximin, and Wilson.
I don’t expect Willock to be signed on a permanent basis, so if Arsenal are surprisingly still looking to loan him out for another season, get this done immediately, if Mike Ashley is refusing to let an offer to buy go in.
Any offers for Allan Saint-Maximin have to be knocked back immediately, as I don’t believe anyone else is capable in this team of making something happen out of nothing, he is simply brilliant on his day and deserves better than this Steve Bruce led team.
Callum Wilson has to be managed better next season too, he’s the only striker we have that is capable of hitting double figures, if he can stay fit. The sensible thing to do is to maintain those those players and add another striker as good as Callum Wilson to the squad.
However, Mike Ashley and sensible don’t go well together in the same sentence.
If it’s true that the reported transfer budget for next season is around the £12m mark, if he thinks that’s enough to support Steve Bruce next season, then I feel we are in for another long, long year in supporting this club.
Steve Bruce has needed £100m to get one place up the table, how on earth will he manage with just £12m??
One thing for sure, it won’t be his fault, it never is.
I sincerely hope a Newcastle United takeover is still somewhere bubbling away, because without it, I just can’t be positive about anything being better next season.
