‘Steve Bruce is doing a superb job at Newcastle’ – So surprising from his former player…
Steve Bruce is ‘brilliant’ and ‘Newcastle fans can shout at me as much as they want’…
These are are words of Clinton Morrison.
If you are trying to recall who he is, Morrison was a third rate striker who is an even worse pundit on Sky Sports.
When Sky Sports had their cull and got rid of the likes of Matt le Tissier, Phil Thompson and Charlie Nicholas, nobody could have imagined that they would actually manage to lower the quality still further.
Clinton Morrison declares: ‘I will get criticised but the job he is doing at Newcastle at the moment is superb.’
Why would he expect to be criticised if Morrison honestly thinks this opinion is on the money?
Well, the job Steve Bruce has done is two wins in the last ten games, four wins in the last twenty four matches.
Actually, I can see where Clinton Morrison gets his ideas from when measuring success, he played three years under Steve Bruce at Birmingham and the ‘striker’ scored a ‘superb’ and ‘brilliant’ 14 goals in 87 appearances.
Morrison had also played under Steve Bruce at Crystal Palace, Bruce then moving on to Birmingham and coming back to buy the brilliant forward, now pundit.
Honestly, what is the point of having one of Bruce’s mates and ex-players on TV giving his supposedly professional opinion.
What would it take for Clinton Morrison and other Brucey friends to criticise the Newcastle United Head Coach.
The only two wins in these last ten matches have carried massive luck for Steve Bruce and his sub-par management skills, Burnley should have had the game won after dominating before ASM won it by himself from the bench, then all out defence against 10 men West Ham when 2-0 up relied on sub Willock to save the day as a late sub with the final score 3-2.
Morrison claims: ‘If you can add two or three [players], Newcastle won’t be fighting relegation, they will be looking up the table. I hope Steve Bruce does keep his job because he’s doing a really good job.’
Talk about ignoring reality.
After 22 months of Steve Bruce and him being allowed a net spend of over £100m on players, this Sunday morning sees Newcastle in seventeenth place, only saved by the fact there are three truly woeful sides at the bottom this season. Bruce has already made 14 permanent or temporary NUFC signings and most of them don’t even get a start.
In these last three games, Steve Bruce has only selected one of his signings to start against Burnley, then two of them in the eleven against West Ham, two in the team against Liverpool.
In all three matches, £40m (£43m according to Mike Ashley) five goals in 63 Premier League matches (makes Clinton Morrison look decent!) superstar Steve Bruce signing Joelinton started all three games, ASM the other Bruce signing in the last two games.
Clinton Morrison speaking to Sky Sports:
“I have worked with Steve Bruce and Newcastle fans can shout at me as much as they want [but] I like him as a man manager.
“I think he is brilliant.
“I think he is spot on.
“I will get criticised but the job he is doing at Newcastle at the moment is superb.
“If you can add two or three [players], Newcastle won’t be fighting relegation, they will be looking up the table.
“I hope Steve Bruce does keep his job because he’s doing a really good job.”
