Premier League relegation odds – Massive shift after Newcastle’s 6 goal thriller at Leicester

Very interesting to see how the Premier League relegation odds are looking after Friday night’s action.

Newcastle United fans going into this weekend with still some lingering fears of relegation.

Knowing that defeats in tough matches against Leicester and Man City, if paired with Fulham wins against Burnley and Southampton in their next two games, would see NUFC only three points clear of safety with two matches to go.

Going into this weekend, Fulham were third bottom on 27 points, Newcastle United fourth bottom on 36 points with Burnley the same but a better goal difference, then Southampton and Brighton with 37 points and Crystal Palace on 38 points.

However, a very surprising but welcome night of action at the King Power Stadium has totally transformed the picture for Newcastle United.

A dramatic 4-2 win over Leicester seeing Newcastle rising to the ‘dizzying’ heights of thirteenth, though a possibility of falling back down to 17th if all the other weekend results went against us.

This is the updated Premier League table, how it looks now on Saturday morning after Leicester 2 Newcastle 4:

The updated Premier League relegation odds from Betfair on Saturday morning:

Relegated – Sheffield United

1/1000 West Brom

1/80 Fulham

25/1 Burnley

175/1 Southampton

300/1 Newcastle United

500/1 Brighton

500/1 Crystal Palace

As you can see, the bookies now making Newcastle 300/1 chances to still go down. Little wonder as Fulham can now only match Newcastle’s 39 points and that would take Scott Parker’s team needing to win all four of their remaining games, plus Steve Bruce losing his last three.

In reality, the only team that Fulham (1/80) could potentially now catch is Burnley (25/1) and it is last chance saloon on Monday.

A draw or better would ensure Burnley’s safety and confirm Fulham’s relegation.

However, a win for Scott Parker’s side would mean they were ‘only’ six points adrift of Burnley with three games each to play.

A positive that Newcastle United have finally reached safety (all but mathematically safe…) by winning a big match, rather than simply relying on Fulham to keep losing.
